BC12D-85 project for sale

I’ve decided I only need one T-craft, my Model 19, and am selling my partially completed BC12D-85 restoration project (N5202M). Originally a 1947 BC12-D, it was upgraded in 1956 to a BC12D-85, living its life in Maine and New Hampshire until sold in 2011 without the C85-8 engine. The new owner purchased a C85-12 engine and had it rebuilt in 2013. He stripped and inspected the entire aircraft, repainted the fuselage, and recovered in Stits process with Poly-Tak through 4 coats of Poly-Brush. He ran out of motivation and the project was stored in a hangar until my purchase in March 2018. I’ve been preoccupied flying and maintaining my Model 19 and no work has been done on the project since my purchase. The project has been stored in a hangar since purchase with the engine mothballed. Other major items include new sealed struts, remanufactured McCauley 1B90CM7148 prop, Ralmark roller-bearing pulley set, Luscombe exhaust w/muffs, new windshield, Clayton skylight STC and plexiglass, and misc Stits supplies. Airframe logbooks since new in 1947; engine logbook from 1973. BC12D-85: TTAF 2861;C85-12: 0 SMOH, TT 1641. Located near Asheville NC. $12,500 OBO for entire project. That sounds like a pretty fair deal, wish I had more time for the project. If I ruled the world, I'd have one to fly and one to work on.

I did just that in the mid-2000's...bought one to fly while I restored another. You don't need to rule the world to do it; just the inkling. <wink>

Good luck to RainierView to find it a good home; if it was here in the UK I'd be snapping your hand off. But a new purchaser should budget for the completion.

ArnessFloatTee.jpg RainierView, I found an old picture of your plane, N5202M, mounted on floats. I can't tell from the angle if the floats are EDO 1400's...I don't see the standard EDO compartment covers with the knobs. I have N5207M...built shortly atter your plane. Dick

Here are a couple photos I found of N5202M on skis and Edo 1400 floats. I flew a T-craft on skis briefly in Montana in the early 70's. It was a lotta fun, but not possible here in North Carolina.

Where did she go? It will take the FAA FOREVER to update the database! Kind of hoping she was sold to someone in he VA NC area.

Thanks, Bob. It was a pleasure meeting you and Kevin. I’m confident 5202M will rejoin the ranks of flying Taylorcraft’s and I have reason to believe any FAA issues can be resolved in a timely fashion.

Hank, 5202M now resides in Tulsa. I’ll post updates on the forum as I move along with the recover and rebuild. I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions also.
