  • Wanted: Wheel pants

Original aluminum Wheel Pants OR the Fiberglass ones that Vans STC years ago before his
R V fame. You can send me pictures of what you have I just know the Piper Units that are all over the place are not what I want. The Taylorcraft units now sold on WAG AERO are a future albeit far future option if I cannot find what I want.

Jim, are you after pics of original "wheel streamlines" only or wanting to buy some originals? I can send you photos of mine as they were purchased in '47 from the factory by the owner at that time.
I also have a CAD drawing of the "flying wing" outer decorative doubler I made for that flat pattern for the outer bolt that goes into the wheel nut shaft.
I did it from marketing photos, drawings, input from others that handmade theirs here on the site and educated guesses about proportions and engineering practices. I think I got it "right".

Just had them restored last year.
    Happy to share.

      Mark,

I may have to have them (the pants)made by a very talented metal worker I know so.some photos of them would be helpful. I know we had some posts of the flying wing however a cad drawing would be extremely helpful. I could use that to give to a friend with a machine shop to cut out some on his bubble jet cutter.

Due to cost of having the pants made as well as the longer term holding up with out inevitable cracking,I may just go with the fiberglass units wag offers or just modify some that a friend offered to me for free that are piper style (I would re work em and un piper them) and make a simple un original but clean wheel pant and definitely yes use the flying wing as a tribute.

Jim, I'll get you pics tomorrow when I'm at the hangar. We did some reinforcement modifications on the gear leg side and the flying wing doubler reinforced the outer pant skin.
