  • Basket case for sale or ? 1941 BF 12 65 Float plane

We have a BF-12- 65 float plane that was Crashed. Not sure that it has much value. We have all log books and data plate.
Not sure if there is any value in this however I hate to just send it off to the scrap yard. Plane is on a flat bed Trailer that we will sell cheap.
I would like to get it out of our warehouse and thought that it might have some value to someone. It's all there but in bad shape. Crashed nose down.
I have some other T-craft parts as well I believe. This was my fathers plane and he is no longer with us.

Can you post some photos? There may be a lot of very useful parts with the plane and you would be surprised what can be rebuilt. Remember that a lot of home garage/hangar shops have as much tooling at Taylor did in 1941. You can make or repair almost anything today.

Any photos of the instruments, cockpit parts, engine compartment, and wing parts will help a lot to figure out the value. Also for those who don't knot Tim Wiley, he is in Portland OR (makes a big difference for those of us on the east coast or I would be on my way there already).

Hate to see a 41 go to scrap!

      Yes,
I will try to get some photos. Might not bee too good as the plane has been piled on the trailer.
I am sure that there are some useable parts. I also need to go through our storage area for more T-craft parts that were not on the plane.
I will get some photos and then see if I can figure out how to post them.
I agree, I hate to see it go to scrap. I have been told by a someone that rebuilds old aircraft that it should be rebuildable. Would need a new fuselage.
      Thanks for the reply.

Was this plane N13060 S/N 2786 or another Taylorcraft? Would be good to make use of what's useable.

Who has the current registration for the aircraft? When the aircraft is sold or otherwise disposed of, the old registration reverse side must be filled out and signed by the registered owner. This must be sent to the FAA. If this is not done, the new owner will encounter difficulties trying to register. In the case of a project, this could be some years later. The FAA is trying to maintain a chain of ownerships.

You will be very surprised at how badly damaged a fuselage can be and still be rebuilt. My 45 was really smashed up and we cut out and replaced a LOT of tubes. It can be done.

Yes this is N13060 SN 2786
The plane is still registered to my father and I am the executer.
The Registration indicates that this is a BCS12-d however the data plate says BF12-65.
The engine is a continental C85-8.
The plane was disassembled in 1961 and stored. The plane was then Rebuilt in 1981. The log books were lost in 1961 and start fresh in 1981. At eh time they somehow determined that the Total Time was 2150 hrs. The last annual indicates total time as 3090.
The floats are Edo 1320 however badly damaged.
I will try to get some photos and post in the next few days.

I just took the tarp off after 10 years and I think it is far worse than I remember. I think they made it far worse when the stacked it on the Trailer

                    FYI
The wings are on the bottom of the pile.
The ends can be seen in one if the photos.
If anyone sees anything of value let me know otherwise it will go to the scrap yard I think.

I would think the engine would have some value , from the photos it looks intact.

I am too far from you to buy it but I see value and would buy it cheap and part it out if I was closer.

                          Here is what I see;

Wing tanks especially the RH tank
LH elevator with trim tab parts
                          primer
                          doors
                          rudder
                          rear metal "D" windows
                          engine

If nothing else you might see if there's an aircraft salvage yard that might get it, or somewhere where someone can scavenge it in the future.

The Data Plate and major fuselage components have value. The engine as a core has value. The floats for parts have value. Hope it can be used and reborn.
