Re: Taylorcraft Control Yoke Hub Covers
I can get you detailed dimensions and yes, you can stamp them really easy from some soft aluminum in a wood die (really a piece of wood with a hole in it and a piece of dowel with a rounded edge). I have a negative in my 45 parts box for a silk screen to put the logo on (the most expensive part of the process). A wood tool should be good to make 15 or 20 buttons and if that many are silk screened at once that will drop the individual cost quite a bit.

Re: Taylorcraft Control Yoke Hub Covers
I only have one round wheel and it doesn't have a cover over the center disc. Is the cover domed or flat? From the photos I have seen it looks like it would be very easy to make one and polish it. The expensive part was always the engraving or silk screening. Is the cover piece aluminum? Do you peen over the edges to hold it on?
Anyone have close-up photos of the round wheel hub from different angles? When I rebuild the 40 I will be needing them too and they look like they could be a good rainy day project.

Re: Taylorcraft Control Yoke Hub Covers
They were made out of soft aluminum, about .032 material going from a 25 year old memory. they crimp around the center disk. There are 3 notches to clear the spokes. There was no engraving or printing. They had a slight dome, no more than 1/8", with a distinct ring around the edge that was maybe 3/32" -1/8" wide. If you look up the October 1994 Vintage Airplane you can see the caps on the control wheels of my '41 BL. It is not super close up detail, but you will get the idea.

Re: Taylorcraft Control Yoke Hub Covers
Wow is that ever clean!
Well, it looks pretty simple to replicate. A more detailed picture would be nice, but I have a starting position now. Thanks!Michael Robinson
