  • right wing stamped ribs

Found I have pre war or early post war riveted type ribs in rh wing along with 2 stamped ribs . Left is 100% stamped. I want to use rivits so I need a set of stamped ribs or buy a set of D&E ribs and try to get a DER to give me an ok. Spruce sells D&E ribs and even mention their p/n., just much more pricey.
So, anyone have some you might want to get rid of. Thanks. JT.

Not to start up one of the "legalities" discussions, but is your plane a post war model? They were all supposed to have all stamped ribs. I have several wreck wings with lots of stamped ribs.

    Hank

By the way, there are LOTS of post war planes around with stick ribs and lots of pre war planes with stamped ones. The only REAL danger is a Fed who "thinks" he sees a problem. MIXED ribs would almost be guaranteed to cause questions that will just waste a lot of your time.

Thanks Hank. According to my data plate she was born in OCT 1946. I don't like mixed ribs either, but finding a complete set for a right wing might be a lot to ask. You say you have a set of stamped ribs, if you willing to part with them please let me know your price. I don't have many spare parts except for the LH Clipped wing with a metal spar, but it does have dual 6 gal tanks with a vent system. Only 1 has a filler neck though. The inbrd tank fills from the outbrd one. Short of good original stamped ribs, I'll have to go D&E and I've already talked with the DER at CAP here in Texas. He leads me to believe we can get it done, but, why push spaghetti up hill with your nose if you don't have to. LOL. This is my first TCraft so I jumped in with both feet. While I CAN swim, it's nice to just be able to touch bottom occasionally. Treading water all the time is tiresome. JT.

Do you plan to build a whole new wing? Why not just replace the stick ribs with stamped ones?

My r/h wing only has 2 stamped ribs with the rest being stick ribs. Both wings need new spars and since it came with new spruce wood spars I might as well change them. I will need all but the two slightly damaged ribs I already have to rebuild the r/h wing. I can email you some pictures if that will help. JT.

Yes. My r wing only has 2 stamped ribs. Rat nest/urine corroded nose ribs as well as LE sheet metal also need replacing. I plan to fab Le metal myself. JT. I can email pics if it's helpful.

              Re: right wing stamped ribs

I have quite a few ribs, but they are in wings with broken spars or are in some way damaged (many ribs in good shape, but some a real mess). There are easily enough for several wings and I will need enough to fix the damaged ones in my 45 (mostly nose ribs, maybe 6 or 8).
Several people have indicated they need ribs and the problem right now is to completely strip a beat up wing down to usable parts will take some room and time. If you only needed a couple, I could get them fairly easy. How long do you have and would you be interested in trading the stick ribs for stamped ones? I will eventually be recovering the 41 and expect to find damaged ribs, plus I still have Josh's 1940 that will eventually need two complete stick rib wings (it had post war wings when it was wrecked...the source of many of the stamped ribs).
I have WAY TOO MANY projects at once and as many here can tell you, speed is NOT one of my strong points! ;-)

              Hank

Any photos would help since thee ARE some subtle differences in wings.

                Re: right wing stamped ribs

I fully understand about too many projects and speed issues. My goal is to be flying in 6 months give or take. Hopefully on the short side a good bit. I'm pretty sure I have some serious knee surgery ahead, so I am trying to gather as many needed parts as possible ahead of time. The kind of things you can clean, repaint, reassemble sitting at a table. If I could be ready to cover wing in 90 days I'd be a happy camper. I'll send you my ph number and email in a PM and we can work this out, and yes, I would be glad to trade sticks for stamps. I also have another fuselage matter I would rather speak about in a PM, at least until my engineering data is completed. You might find it very interesting. I'm medium on skill and short on knowledge. Check for a PM. Thanks Mr. Hank. JT

I have a bunch of stamped ribs, and even NOS ones. Only thing I don't have is butt ribs and will have to check on the tip rib. Should be able to make up a wing pretty easy. You will also need a different tip bow unless you have a 15 built up rib wing with the post war tip bow.

Im interested in the ribs, especially the nos ones. What do you want for them. I have no idea of the diff between tip bows. My wings have 15 ribs in all. ALso, any info for making and installing new spars would be extremely helpful. Thanks. JT

tip bow on prewar starts at the tip rib and is rounder than postwar. postwar starts just in front of spar under the spotwelded leading edge tip section and is flatter. usually it also has a "E" style nav light mount in it.
