        Paul,
Not sure I understand your comment. If it is "do the Pretzel shafts work on the Deluxe wheels", the answer is no.

You are correct I was wondering if the pretzel shaft fit a banjo control.
I have the banjos but need the shafts.
If anyone has a set they would part with please let me know.
          Thanks again

The Banjo shafts are not terribly complex. They could be made fairly easy if you are a decent welder and have a lathe and drill press.

I can measure mine if you need it. Also check carefully on the plated parts. I think most were Nickel plated, not Chrome. At least the ones on mine were. Nickel has a more subdued appearance and not so "mirror" like.

Still looking for another center cap if anyone has an extra.

I am hoping to spend the weekend on the yoke project.
If you have a measurement it would be helpful. I will see if I have access to a nichol plating company

Bye the way thanks to you, chuck Avons and the tribes posts the 85 hp project went beautifully.

Do you have something that would work as a replacement for those who do not care about keeping it original? If so, we may be able to do a trade, I think I have one original style with the Taylorcraft logo. Two non original for one original.

                      Re: '41 Deluxe yokes

I brought one of the wheels home last night and will take it apart and get dimensions for the shaft and end fitting that goes inside the wheel. I will try and post the drawing for anyone else who needs a new shaft.

As for the front caps, we have been looking for the right size freeze plugs (what e are pretty sure the originals were made from) but it appears to have been a really old tractor engine and no one has been able to find one that fits. My one wheel hub cover is out on loan to Mark Baxter right now (he is looking too). One solution is to spin or punch new ones from brass or copper (the originals are brass, but copper works a lot easier) and we could probably make them ourselves. They both plate well and the only down side is the copper ones would not be as damage resistant since they would be much softer.

The logo on the front of mine is pretty worn so even if we can't find or make some new ones I would REALLY like a good rubbing or some good photos with a size reference of that logo. I already have an engraver who will put the logo on if he has a good sample of the logo.

                        Re: '41 Deluxe yokes

Hank, I really put a lot of effort into the freeze plugs and while I came close there was only 1 manufacture that was close but the thickness was way to much. I have 2 in pretty good condition with just a bit thin in the middle between the r and c for taylorcraft.
In my opinion it would be best to find someone that can make a stamp that could replicate the taylorcraft logo on a disk of this thin metal and then put it into a press with the dimensions needed, hell I have often thought that the end of a bat would be the right size, at least the curved end of the bat as the male end of the press. If you want I can send these to you if you want to follow up on it. I have wondered more than once if the guy in the Philippines that does some taylorcraft repos might be interested. (I bought a canvas cargo section from him and I know he has other products).

I should have included these 2 pictures from the back side that show the difference in thickness, one is our cap and the other is a freeze plug from dorman (you can get just about any size from them) and while our cap is not a true 90* edge the dorman freeze plug appears to be. This interior looks to be brass and the front crome coated, or something applied to it, the outside edge that is folded also is not tall enough by almost 1/8 inch but thats a eyeball measurement, and the face of the freeze plug is flat compared to our cap which is curved, when you look at the pictures that were both taken from the same distance -look at the edge and you can see the flair on our cap and the 90 in the freeze plug. MY wife won't let me touch her caliper, she keeps saying I am measuring for to much information, (she's a machinist by training-XXXXX by heart) but we get along.
