  • NICE Taylorcraft for sale, NO not mine!

I got a call asking me if I could take a look at this plane (only 30 minutes from me). I have seen photos and she looks like a beauty. Always hangared and most of the time since recover in dry Texas. The person who was interested found a plane closer to home but I always want to see a nice Taylorcraft stay in the Tribe. The owner didn't know about us and I didn't know he was only 30 minutes away!!! We REALLY need to keep out eyes peeled for more of our babies!
Barnstormers ad below. Yell if someone wants me to go look at her. I also have a local IA who is VERY GOOD with our planes who could do a pre-buy if someone is really interested.

I was the one who ask Hank to take a look. I agree that the airplane looks great in the pictures. The new parts list for the restoration was impressive. The only concern I had about the airplane is that it is covered in Grade A cotton. He read off the 337 to me and it sounds like it was done right, but it just left to many unknowns for me to be comfortable.

Well, except for it being yellow, wow! Lots of new stuff, but what would prompt them to do Grade A cotton? Depending upon how you stored it you could be recovering it within not that many years, losing a lot of money in the process.

Tom, you could probably re-cover that with one hand and blindfolded over a weekend. Lol!

That airplane came to the alliance flyin back in 2007 or 08. Was spotless in and out, and everything looked to be well done. But I remember the grade A cotton and wondering the same as you guys. And as for yellow Marty this thing was REALLY bright lemon yellow. You could see it plane as day in the dark!

Maybe I could, but that expense would come to soon compared to synthetic fabric.

The fabric has already been on the airplane for at least 7 years, and who knows how old it was before it was put on.

Ryan, I like your yellow especially the paint scheme. I could live with that. Lemon yellow? Yuck.

Tina and I were there in 2007, I will have to look at my pictures as I don't remember that.

It was really bright. I remember my wife saying yours is going to be that color? That was a quick NO! May have been 2008. I have pics taken of it at that time if anybody wants/needs them.

Re: NICE Taylorcraft for sale, NO not mine!

Just for some personal info, I had a good friend with a Grade A cover on a Cub and it was kept inside a hangar it's whole life. Grade A will last DECADES if NOT kept outdoors, and this one was flown A LOT, like several times a week on the east coast. You DO have to do a punch test (he did it EVERY annual) but she NEVER failed. The finish you can get with Cotton is stunning. I HAVE NOT seen this plane yet, but I learned to cover with Cotton and I would not hesitate to use it if I could get it, BUT, and this is a bigger BUT than all of the Butts in the Kardasian family together, I WOULD NOT keep the plane outside. EVER! Synthetics will take HUGE abuse and keep on going, in fact I have seen tubes rust away under fabric and not be seen until they fail. Cotton shows stains and the moisture that rusts the tube fails the cotton much sooner.
It is really each to their own, but if you are interested in the plane, make SURE you bring a Maul fabric tester and test MANY spots on the upper surface. From the looks in the photos I would bet you won't get a failure. Talking to this guy, I think the plane was really his baby.

                Hank

If it DOES fail a punch, the value would drop about 6 grand as the point penetrated the fabric. Without a punch test, I would walk away without the 6 grand discount. But that is just my opinion. Worth what you are paying for it.

Acroeric on this forum knows the guys who restored this airplane and the quality they put in it.
