    Re: F-19 Cowl

Hank, I have the maze filter with the paper. Looks like the bracket from distance. You can see the corrugated surface in this pic...

I believe Dorothy Ferris told me that each cowling was made individually so no two are identical. I do have a F-19 cowling but it is not in very good shape.

That is why Taylorcraft is not in business, Boeing and Cessna figured it out, every part the same every time, reduces time and costs along with increase in efficiency

          Re: F-19 Cowl

Even the "Big Dogs" don't always make fully interchangeable parts. The first plane to have truly interchangeable parts was the B-2 Stealth, and even then the number one plane is different from the rest of the fleet.
When we would get parts from Grumman for the A-6 and F-14 we always had to specify NO HOLES DRILLED, because fastener holes NEVER lined up. It was especially bad on fuel and hydraulic lines. They would be shaped the same, but the connectors were always in different places. I have had the same problem with Cessna, Piper, Beech and Mooney parts. You can usually swap a whole wing, but not an individual skin panel. Almost ALL parts like cowls and removable skin panels are drilled and fastened in place and will be a little off. The top cowl on my 41 fits like a big brothers hand-me-down shirt. The bottom isn't much better. I am sure neither is original and neither came from the same plane.

This photo was on the Taylorcraft Facebook page (HIGHLY recommended, a lot of guys are there that are not here). It shows the original no filter air inlet that goes with the lower cowl I have. It was used on Continental engines with Stromberg carbs.
Note that this lower cowl is NOT a flat one. It has a slight "bowl" rolled into it, but NO CUTOUT for either air filter box.
