  • Mag Control Wheels wanted and available (sort of)

I am looking for a pair of magnesium control wheels. I don't like them but I believe they are OE on my June 24 1946 BC12D.

I have the set I removed from my aircraft which have been modified ie the tops have been cut off, I assume in an attempt to emulate later date control yokes.
Anyway they have been cleaned, conversion coated (not easily done these days because chromate conversion coating for magnesium is hard to get), epoxy primed and top coated with black two-part urethane. They'll work if somebody wants that look.

I have one with a small crack that isn't where it will cause a strength problem. Actually looks more like a casting inclusion than a crack.

Normally magnesium tig welds well. Any experience with these wheels? do you think the one you have might be reparable?
      thanks

Just from looking at it, if I was going to use them I would just prime over it and use it. To my eye, it is NOT really a crack, just a line in the casting that showed up when the factory originally put them out. If I assumed the part cracked through there, I wouldn't worry about it (probably replace it if it did, but it wouldn't prevent you from flying the plane.
I will try and find it this weekend and take some photos.

I have two of these. The plastic center part is held on with what appears to be expandable foam and one nut on the back. They are the cast ones, just with the later model center plastic added. I would think the plastic could be removed.

We have a broken control wheel and are looking for a replacement, even a loaner until a purchasable unit appears for sale.

We have one good one, and one with a crack. I am not happy welding the yoke mount back on the broken unit.

Marty - are yours available for sale?

Here is a photo of what we are trying to match:
