  • Original Taylorcraft BC-12D Wheelpants

    Hello All,

Regretfully I sold my '46 BC-12D a while ago. However, I held onto the wheelpants (pictured below) understanding they were not the most common accessory for a Taylorcraft, and also with the hope of eventually putting them on another BC-12D in the future. I currently have an Aeronca 7AC (which is for sale) and the likelihood of me getting another BC-12D is rather slim. Thus, I would be interested in finding a new home for my set of wheelpants. Like discussed previously on this forum, I'm unsure of a fair value, but I would be willing to entertain offers from any interested parties. Unfortunately, they are not a perfect set, as they have a few extra holes, dings and other minor defects, but they are not in real bad shape, either!

    Regards,
    Bruce

Could someone trace the bolt pattern from those pants? I have a few tracings to compare them to sop we can determine if the bolt patterns were the same on all of them before we make replacement attach fittings. So far it looks like the RH and LH hole patterns ARE NOT the same, (close, but not exact mirror images) but it could be that the ones we have looked at so far are not representative.

              Hank,
Sorry I didn't see this post sooner. The wheel pants have been sold and shipped to a new owner now. However, I'll notify the new owner of this request and see if he will get the tracings you need...

Understand. I will trace the ones I have and try to post them. I have a bad feeling they are all just a bit different and matched to the pants. That would mean everyone would have to patch their pants or get un-drilled fittings and try to drill the steel to match the aluminum. Not all that hard, but sure would be nice if they all matched!

                  Hank,
I have a couple sets of brackets. I will try to remember to trace and send ya a couple with tach parts when I can remember, lol. I don't have any way to scan them myself.

                      Re: Original Taylorcraft BC-12D Wheelpants

All I really want is a tracing where the bracket face that goes against the pant is traced with a pencil with the holes marked. I have 5 brackets total and just want to see if the holes are in the same place on all of them. Sure would be nice if they jig drilled them all! A simple drill jig could have been made with a piece of scrap steel and flipped over for right and left. If they are the same that is what I plan to do.
Looking at making the weldements and the cast resin parts and sending them out for you guys to "assemble" so they can be "owner produced". Probably have pilot holes and some final dressing to do so you actually DO build each one. It looks like I may be able to make them look just like original when painted and a LOT stronger.
Any idea how many people would be interested in a set?
Anyone interested in making fiberglass pants? I have 4 pants (2 aluminum and 2 glass) we could use to make molds. If the molds work out I would love to make an aluminum set but I am betting NO ONE would pay what they would cost for the labor! I still remember bumping out that 41 instrument panel fro scratch. What a nightmare!

For anyone interested I got out to he airport and have the brackets home. As soon as I have hole locations I will talk to the welder and see how much to make replicas.

Anyone remember who needed the wing tip bow? One is now in my garage. Also a wing tip leading edge (the curved sheet metal one). Just can't remember who was looking for them.
