I have come across new A-65 cylinder sets. They only come in sets of 4 PM me for details. They are not cheap, but they are available from a supplier I found.... Tim

Re: NEW A-65 cylinders!
I have not sold my cylinders. They are not for sale. I plan on keeping them for my own use. I am not interested in "new" cylinders because I just don't trust the quality compared with the old original cylinders. I spent a small fortune restoring the ones I have back to better than new condition. They are worth much more to me than I could probably get for them on the open market. Everyone focuses on price. I value quality and just don't think the new ones are as good. I do have some green tagged cores that I would consider selling, if someone wants to go the route I took in having them restored.Richard Pearson

Re: NEW A-65 cylinders!
thanks
I have something like 3 sets now as spares and most have been brought up to "stud assembly" status that can be used for overhaul.
Some are +15 and some have been chromed back to standard.
I went overboard in getting spares.
You are correct Richard, much focus on price. Proper engine work is expensive.
It takes a fair amount of $$ to make a legimate legal 4 cylinder set from good cores.
I bet its $2k. Perhaps one can never recover that thru a sale but for sure thru use.
I suspect that I need to put a note on mine so my executor knows how much to ask for them.

Obviously the cost to restore original cylinders will depend on their condition. But in my case it was also a matter of how anal I am about rebuilding things. I wanted to eliminate anything that could detract from the life expectancy of these cylinders when I put them to use. I went with all new seats, guides, valves, etc. The cost was just slightly less than twice your figure. I don't know what the new aftermarket cylinders are going for, but I am happy with the route I took. I am sure there are some who will value the new aftermarket cylinders more than originals. They probably think I am nuts for sticking with the originals.Richard Pearson

Re: NEW A-65 cylinders!
They have these for $5789.06 ( the kit).
Bad news is they won't have any available until March due to pistons.
They have cylinders built and ready, but pistons won't be in until then.
We are taking orders for these because they already have 27 kits sold, and initial production is nearing being sold out.N29787

I think I spend about $250 -$350 per cylinder for getting it into "stud" condition (new ex guides, seats and int. guides when required, plug bushings, chrome to std.) then add valves to that maybe another $150, and springs $12 I an at $400 to $500 per cylinder and not pistons, rings or rockers yet so it really adds up.
A couple of years ago Fresno had NOS a65 cylinders for about $975 and restored ones for $675 but I do not recall what was included with them.
Tim's price of $5780 for a set of four must be pretty good given the sell out that they have and in comparison to this arithmetic which does not include the cost of cores (~$100 because even though you pay $50-$75 some are not useable)

Re: NEW A-65 cylinders!
I went through 5 cylinders in 140 hours, cracks, guides, spark plug inserts, etc. I finally wound up with a new set and no problems in 500 hours. I was tired of rebuilding junk at 4-500 per cylinder. TimN29787

Re: NEW A-65 cylinders!
Dave, because of the A-65 cylinder problem, I am running an o-200 now, I just got tired of working on the old stock that was out there. I have a collection of cylinders that are cracked, broke and other problems, if someone wants to make some lamps, I will make them a killer deal. Tim
