  • How many would be interested in new fuel sight tubes?

I have had a rash of calls for them lately so I made a few phone calls to see what i could do. I can have them made to print out of pyrex and sell them for around $50 per pair. Original plastic one dont last, and pyrex ones should be the last ones you have to buy. Pyrex is not fragile like glass so they won't be easy to break. If interested let me know so I can see how many sets I need to have made. There will be no paperwork on these. They will be done under owner approved parts regulation.

From the name, I assume the sight tube is a vertical tube that shows how much fuel is in a tank. I didn't have one on my tcraft so I'm unfamiliar with the device; where is it mounted? - Mike

Cost ? A few bucks each, maybe $5 with shipment for material.

It is mounted on the side of the wing tank in all L-2's.

The originals were made from CAB (cellouse acetete butyrate) tubing. Whwn I was helping owners I found a source for it. I have the fixture that Dorothy used to make them. Dick

Do you still have a source for the tubing and what would it cost to make more?

Did not know that! Been at the T-cart game 20 years and still learning! Does that mean that the factory should have them????

                  Mike,

I have a friend locally who is in dire need of fuel sight tubes for his L-2M. Do you have any available or a source for them? Thanks!
                  Cheers,
                  Marty

Marty, made mine with clear PVC from Aircraft Spruce. Wasn't difficult, and ver inexpensive. Thino I have pic either on Yellow Duck or on my L-2 photos.

                      Lee,

What about longevity? Mike was talking about using glass. What did you use for a source for the tubing? Thanks!
                      Cheers,

Marty, here is picture of finished product, clear PVC from Aircraft spruce. I know I have pictures of when I fabricated these (2), but can't find them. Made a wooden jig , then heated the PVC with heat gun or hair dryer and bend around jig. Very easy and works very well. You can make a barber poll stipes at 45 deg angle to paste back of site gage and will show up as horsional lines where fuel quanity is (didn't do it).

My fuel sight tubes have become yellow and almost brittle. They were made by Dick Huish so many years ago and were the exact shape as shown in drawing D-335. I will purchase from Mcmaster-Carr, Butyrate tubing 3/8 OD, Part Number: 8565K33. Will make a wooden mold, heat the material to shape. Do I have to make a top and bottom mold to ensure correct shape of the tubing?

I would make a mold but not necessary
