Re: L-2 Bungees and Tool Revisited

    Thanks Marty,

I have been thinking of a lever over center tool.

Would be too big to sell but maybe could be made and used on site.

Re: L-2 Bungees and Tool Revisited

Just to be clear I am saying that I would design a tool that anyone could make for themselves and use.

You would not buy the tool from me I already know that it will be too cumbersome to ship so I do not plan on making and selling.

I have some sketches now but without a landing gear part to try it on it is not useful.

        Dave,

Though it may not help, if I can find the one I bought located at my friend's aircraft museum I will take pictures. It is like an Easter egg hunt in there, though.
        Cheers,
        Marty

I made one that holds the strut securely and works off the same principal as the ones for the b models. I thought I had posted a pic of it before. I would rent it out but would be expensive to ship.

            Hi Mike,

I have not seen pictures of yours, if I had I would have saved them immediately. As we still have a local L-2 it would be good to have a look at yours, (in pictures).
            Cheers,
            Marty

A friend and L-2 owner provided these two pictures. He says he uses a big threaded rod from a tool he has to make the required tension on the rings so he can easily slip them onto the gear parts. He is also using the 11122 Bungees and is very happy with them.

Mine is similar to this one, but has a deal to capture the bungee like the b model tool, and goes down and picks up the lower attach point of the strut

Resurrecting this thread, any other pictures of L-2 bungee tools, whether it is on the hangar door set-up or others?

Hey guys, resurrecting this thread again. Pictures would be of great help. The two provided really don't show the complete tool utilized. Could some of you take a couple of minutes and snap some photos of what you have, even it you are using the hangar door method to do so? Thank you!
                      Cheers,

Re: L-2 Bungees and Tool Revisited

There are several methods for Pipers that may work (?). A search of Cub bungee tools turns up images/links and a new tool: https://www.stewartshangar21.com/bungeebuddy

                        May not apply to L-2's.

The tool should work for any shock units that have pinnable extensions on both ends. How about a picture of a bare L-2 unit? Surely Mr. T didn't reinvent that component from his earlier Taylor Cub?

My first L2 had the incorrect Cub style of landing gear struts and I was able to use a tool I had at the time. The L-2 struts are different from the Cub. I haven't got anything anymore, haven't had my L-2 for ten years but I remember the difference. My friends are currently on the plane until we come up with something to change them out. Maybe someone else, Edwin Otha or Mike Redpath, can chime in.
                              Cheers,
