  • Fuel Tank Filler Fitting?

A friend of mine remembered seeing a stamped piece that goes around the wing tank filler on an L-2, before covering the wing. I cannot find anything on this, any ideas where he saw this? Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Marty

Marty a project plane that we had had a round plate that fit on the wing tank filler and was used to glue the fabric to it was a BC12d 1946.It fit tight around the neck and had a flange that spaced it up from the tank to support the fabric.

      Marty:

Go to HD Aircraft Specialties and in the aircraft plumbing section you will find the rubber seals used on aircraft toilets. It fits the neck, but you may have to cut back on the base. When installing it, apply aircraft silicone around the base to seal it to the fabric. It works and provides a tight seal avoiding fuel going into the wing and the fabric.

For the nose tank, I use the one listed for cubs. You may have to trim one side to make it fit around the windshield base faring.

      Hope this helps

        Ralph,

Not the same thing he is looking for, but thanks. He described it as a stamped piece, I thought I remembered seeing it to, but cannot remember where. It was used on the wing tanks of an L-2.
        Cheers,
        Marty

Also on BC12D wing tanks 4or 5 in in diameter and slipped over the filler neck of wing tank.Stamped out of aluminum small holes in the face with a 90 deg lip on the center hole that is about 1/2 in it is used to support the fabric around the filler neck.

Don't know, Rob. Let me send him a picture and see if that is them. If so, where are those sourced from? Thanks guys!

For what it's worth, I have two of them also and they are loose because my wings aren't covered yet. If y'all want, I can measure them to make a drawing before I fabric them into my wings.
That way, perhaps someone can fab them from the drawings.

Marty, I don't know of a source, but they could be made easily. No need for all the holes around the edge because of the good glues we have these days.

Easy for you to say, Tom. Haha. These are for Robin Reid. Not sure if he can do it, he is pretty good at restoring airplanes, though. He thought he saw someone stamping those out somewhere. He wasn't sure if he saw it on here or someplace else.
