  • Weight & Balance

Guy's I'm brain dead, when figuring weight & balance on a 1941 BC-12 is the oil included in the empty weight or do I add it in?
    Thanks, David DeBerry

      Re: Weight & Balance

Oil is NOT included in the Empty Weight.

In 1978 regs allowed oil in be included in EW.

Generally mfgs.then used the term "Basic Empty Weight".

Are you checking W & B for a flight or after weighing?

          AC 43.13-1B has a W & B section.

Oil, Useable Fuel & Useable Oil & Baggage are considered "Useful Load" items.

If someome is familiar with a newer aircraft like a Tomahawk the W & B system is "post 78" & oil is part of Basic Empty Weight.

When you weigh an aircraft for W & B purposes the standard is No USEABLE fuel or oil.

RESIDUAL fuel or oil that can't be drained in part of the Empty Weight.

Often it is easier to fill fuel & oil ; weigh aircraft & then mathematically subtract the effects of fuel & oil.

Better than trying to estimate 3/4 fuel & 3 1/2 qts oil.

shows how long since I have done a wb. I don't consider oil useable. if I am using that much oil, I have bigger problems.

Actually; if the oil is UNUSEABLE you really have BIG problems!
