Did someone make sheet metal doors for replacement sometime in the past? Or did a previous owner just do it himself without documenting it?
I had a 46 BC12D-1 and i am sure the door on it was all aluminum and it had a sliding glass. It only had one door, the passenger side. Marv

what year is your airplane? or better yet does the paperwork go with the fuselage. I know there are at least 6 different doors used through the f-21

I found the wood door drawing and will take it down to copy today so I can find the cost including postage (no profit since these are factory drawings and I don't think it is even legal to "sell" them). I have a few people on my PMs already I haven't looked at yet. I will post the cost today. Remember I need your mailing address!

OK, more delays. Couldn't get the drawings copied on a Saturday. I will try and make copies Monday on the way home from work.
            Sorry guys.

                David,
Send me your address and I will send you a set. Got them copied and have one set left from the first run (I can make more if others want them). Cost looks like it will be around $5 mailed (going to mail the ones to John S. today, he is the only person who has sent me an address so far).
I have drawings ready for John, Miguel, Jim and David. If we get a couple more people it might be a good idea to look at making a door fixture to build them in. The doors on my plane fit perfect and it only takes a couple of minutes to take them off to design a fixture and weigh them.
When I go out to the airport I will weigh the sheet metal and wood doors (ready to fly). My tube doors are in the barn and are not covered, but I can tell you right now, they are the lightest ones. I will try and weigh them too.
Just to stir the pot, is it legal for an owner to take the doors off and re-mount them without an A&P inspecting the re-install? Tim? (astjp2) What say you? This is exactly the kind of thing owners do without thinking about it. I have a feeling you can take them off, but a mechanic should check to make sure you put them back on right.

                    Hank,
Thanks for the door drawing. I have done a fairly detailed analysis of the expected weight of the wood doors. I believe they would be close to 6.5 lbs each. My aluminum doors weigh 8.2 lbs and if I was to add the opening windows they would be almost 10 lbs. This represents a significant weight savings when every pound counts as reduced baggage or fuel.

The weight of 6.5 lbs does not count any upholstery on the inside of the door.

                      John,
I got out to the airport and had to remove the wood door from the 41 so I took the opportunity to weigh it. It came to 8.2# complete and ready to fly. That includes fabric, handles and latches, window frame, plexi and full upholstery and padding.
I also had a metal door (no windows) that was 5.1# (kind of useless number since it wasn't complete) and the tube door frame with window and latches but no fabric covering was 6.4# (also limited value with no covering or sound deadening). Whenever I get a chance I will try to remember to weigh complete tube and sheet doors ready to fly.
                      Hank

I think I could lighten up my wood door quite a bit. It has really nice upholstery on it. I got a little carried away with my new interior.

I wished my doors weighed 8 lbs. Door was 100% original except outer skin. I remade the window from square aluminum tubing, and the door panel was leather. It was ever bit of 15-18 lbs.

Wow, I thought mine were overweight! I guess maybe I did better than I thought. The big thing on mine is the carbon fiber between the outside plywood skin and the frame. It made them MUCH stronger with almost no weight gain.
How thick is the plexi in your windows? I went with 1/8" since I didn't know what was original and my window frames are steel.

Those doors must be made from Ironwood!
