  • Continental A-80

    Greetings All,

Been a couple years since I posted. I am having the wings recovered and am looking at picking up Terry's STC to get the wing mods while they are uncovered. I was offered an overhauled A-80 with zero time on it. I checked the search engine and there was one thread on the A-80 so I am looking for the collective wisdom and experience of the Tribe for guidance. Is an A-80 a viable option ILO a C-85? Much obliged.

NO, it is no longer a type certified engine, they recinded it about 60 years ago. I had one and the pistons are so much heavier that it really was a rough runner. If you want to have more power, look at an c-85-8 or 90-8, they still have cylinders that you can buy new. Tim

turning an orignal A series engine 2800 rpm was never a good idea. something about popping heads off valves routinely is never good
