  • Looking for N5200M

I recently found this picture of my father standing next to his Taylorcraft. To the best of my knowledge it was taken around the early 1950's in Evansville Indiana at Skylane Airport. My Uncle Tom Crane was the owner of Skylane at the time. I began to get interested in seeing if the plane is still still around. I went to the FAA site and found this. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinqu...umbertxt=5200M

According to this the trail ends in Alaska in 1955. Before I dig in any further with the FAA I thought I would give you folks try and see if by chance somebody here knew the whereabouts of this aircraft.

I have done numerous searches and haven't come up with anything. If you could offer suggestions where to look further I would greatly appreciate it!

    Dan.

Sounds like a plane that needed a restoration and is resting peacefully in a barn or garage where the owner has failed to keep the registration active. If it was MY dads plane I would look further and see if anyone close to where it was last registered could help locate it.
Just for fun, you might like to see the picture flipped around the way it was taken.

Try doing a search using the Taylorcraft serial number. The N-number may have been changed. Dick

As we all know something was left. The Bell 47 G2 that I got my Commercial & CFI in had been "destroyed" four years prior..... keep checking.

                Re: Looking for N5200M

Bet you might get it for a song if it's been in a barn that long. EVERYTHING on a Taylorcraft is repairable.
If the owner has sat on it this long there is probably a strong sentimental reason. When I bought my first Taylorcraft I made a promise that if I EVER decided to sell her, the last owner had first right of refusal to buy her back. I still stand by that, but he will be dead long before I will. The right of first refusal offer got him to finally let go of her.
He cried as I took her away, but he knew he was never going to finish rebuilding her. I suspect he also knew he wouldn't ever buy her back, he just couldn't admit it out loud.

Dennis, I tried the link and it says the site does not exist and list different suggestions to try. I didn't have any luck finding it. I tried several different versions but couldn't find it.

I e-mailed the Lodge in Alaska but they have not responded yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Thanks Dick. I appreciate your efforts with this.

I called the Backwoods Lodge and spoke to a guy there who directed me to a local guide who has been in Cantwell for over 30 years. I called and spoke with his daughter who was very nice, and she explained her father was out picking up some hunters but would call or e-mail me in a few days...nothing yet. I suspect that this aircraft was used as a parts plane, but we'll see.
