  • BC-65 Fuselage Stringers

All the stringers, and about everything else, is gone from my fuselage (27451). Are there stand offs between the frame and the stringers on the BC-65? Pictures, measurements, drawings, etc? My '41 had a number of them, though it is faired differently.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi Mike, Don't know if this set up is original, but here's one version. If it was standard you may see the welded ears on your fuse.....

My stringers were mounted like this. I think they are the same as Howards. There was a cotter pin in about half of them, just enough to keep the stringers in place until the fabric is shrunk down on them. After the fabric is on the cotter pins don't do anything.

Looks just like my 41 and 45.

Thanks for the info guys. I will take a REAL close look at the fuselage frame for any evidence of any stand offs this week end. It is currently at the airport behind the '41.

Mike, the BC would not have had stand offs. They would have been laced dirrectly to the framework, and fixed to the structure at the front end. If I remember right mine was notched for the lacing to be recessed, so there was not a bump. Tom

Thanks for the info. Makes a lot of sense. The aluminum strip lacing is still on many of the tubes. No sign of stand offs or even where they might have been. Did the belly fair right to the gear legs? Floor boards-did they run side to side or fore and aft (like my '41)? Thanks again

On the tube behind the gear legs there should be tabs for a wood piece to go accross the fuselage. The stringer will attach to the cross wood piece. The floor boards should be the same with a split front to rear in the middle. Tom

Mike, the A belongs to dad. At this point they are all still projucts. Tom
