What is the history of the engine cowling on a 1939 BL or BC-65? Was the engine enclosed inside the cowling or did the cylinders stick out?

    Re: engine cowlings

All A and B models prior to 1940 had open cowls with exposed cylinders. In 1940 and 1941, the "Deluxe" model had a full cowl, while cheaper versions retained the open cowl. Full cowling was exclusively used post-war.

The open cowl is fairly simple to make if you have a nose bowl. I think I could come up with some rough patterns for a BL cowl flat pieces. Getting a nose bowl is a little harder. Tom

The way I understand it is; the firewall/ boot cowl is different between open and closed cowls. The closed cowl firewall is wider than the open version.....change 1 thing change 10!
