If this was wrong then the cables will interfere with the aileron link, agree?

I was just trying to think of things that would cause the aileron to be higher. My bet is there is 1 or more of the ball sockets missing.

I'm not so sure...there would be slop / slack / huge amounts of backlash if any of the components were missing.

Attached picture is of the general arrangement & components of the aileron push-pull tubes. These are the long red & white items in this photo.

Note these two tubes have different orientation of the apertures for the balljoint; one is left and the other right.

Yellow arrows indicate balls; red arrows indicate sockets. The red tube shows the general assembly arrangement.

The two unmarked items upper-left are the rods (sometimes hollow) that go inside the tubes; these ensure separation of the end ball/socket assemblies within the tubes.

I think that the cables would interfere and the aileron(s) would work backwards?


By the way it ("If this was wrong then the cables will interfere with the aileron link, agree?") was a real question not a statement, sorry for the confusion.

Its going to be the cable rigging.

Its not balanced from left to right.

Adjust the left and right tension cables and the balance cable to get equal travel up and down.

Here's why I say that, the total travel is the same on both sides and the differential travel is out of synch.

So the neutral position is not really neutral.

I would double check that cable that comes from the "H" frame and make sure it has symmetrical travel as well.

Yesterday I forgot to say that I seperated the cables from the control wheels, meaning just the ailerons were hooked up, still had left going up 4 in. and down 6 in. and right going up 6 in and down 4 in. When looking at it today I still see that the left bellcrank is not centered when the aileron is, when I center the bellcrank it has the aileron up 1 half inches. Tomorrow I will try to match the up and down and see what I get. The bellcranks say 1210 Welcast on them.

I whent to the airport today and followed Drude advise and was able to get the aileron cables adjusted to get the right amount up and down . Then I adjusted the rest of the cables to get the wheels centered and the right amount throw.

rigging can be frustrating glad you found it quickly

funny story for me anyhow - My wife has been telling me for the last year or two to catalog all that I have so in case I die first she can figure out what I have. Well while looking for the links and bellcranks yesterday I was amazed at all the parts I collected and forgot about. I found stuff that I thought I sold a long time ago. Had to tell her today that she was correct and that I will catalog it this year.
