I need a new fiberglass fairing for the air filter and carb heat intake that is rivited to the lower cowling of a 1946 BC 12D. Mine has been patched several times and I would like a new one. I haven't been able to locate a replacement so far.

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
Hi Jim,
Contact David at the information on this link from a thread I posted: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...light=wenglarz
He makes them from metal. The one on my plane is aluminum.Cheers,
Marty

I learned that David, for some reason, won't do the compound curve. Then again, I have nil metal-working skills.Cheers,

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
I have an aluminum one that I bought new from the factory when they were open in Texas for a short time.
See the picture below. Is this what you are looking for?
I've been holding onto it thinking that mine was in rough shape and would need to be replaced one day.
But I just went through my lower engine cowl and fixed a bunch of problems but decided not to replace this part.
Send me a PM if you want the new part (shown below).
FWIW, I also have a '46 BC-12D. But I have not verified that this part fits correctly. It looks like it should.Last edited by TimHicks; 04-02-2013, 06:19.Tim Hicks

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
Whoever gets it should make a splash mold so we can make more. Probably easiest to lay some plastic wrap over a box with wet plaster and press the fairing into it. From the plaster you can make a series of Bondo bucks that will be good for several aluminum ones each (you can make as many Bondo bucks as needed from the plaster since you don't tap the aluminum on the plaster one, just don't forget to put some plastic in so you don't "glue" the Bondo to the plaster....don't ask).
It is a nice simple shape that would be great for learning metal bumping.
Hank
You can also make a FG one in the female mold

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
There was a guy in the St. Louis area that was making these in aluminum, too. I never spoke to him but he had a picture and information on the internet that I posted on a thread here in the past.Cheers,

Here is the link I had posted in the past. Again, I never contacted him. The picture on the website shows the same thing you are needing. http://www.liming.org/aircraftmetalarts/index.htmlCheers,

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
I just received an e-mail from David Wenglarz about the cowl fairing for the air cleaner. They are $175.00, one piece, and he advised they are not two piece and then welded together like the guy in St. Louis makes.
As a side note he makes the lower cowl flat bottom style for $650 and will be offering the compound shaped lower cowl for $800.
Remember, before someone complains about the prices, he has a lot of money tied up in all the time that goes into wooden bucks, forms, and tooling. All of his stuff is that I have seen is very, very nice.
He is also trying to get together some wing filler panels in time for Oshkosh. He has been busy making Taylorcraft and Waco parts and still wants to make other parts for Taylorcraft. It is difficult to find someone who is willing to make parts for our planes so please keep that in mind.Cheers,
Marty

Re: Fiberglass lower cowl fairing for air filter
If the part that I have were the last part in existence, I would happily sell it or donate it to be replicated for the greater good.
But since there are 2 commercial sources for these, I think that I'd like to just hang on the one that I have (in case I need it in the future).
Please understand.Tim Hicks
