  • STC for C-85

Does the STC for upgrading to a C-85 require a second wing tank?

  • #2
No, not as I understand it. There is a formula for fuel capacity, and an 85 requires 12.75 gallons. The nose tank only holds 12, so that is not enough. A 6 gallon wing tank, or maybe even the 6 gallon fuselage auxiliary tank would meet the requirements. I even wondered if a header tank like from the Swick T would be enough to meet the requirements.

Where is the formula? Is it in CAR 3 or the STC or ??? I'd like to see the specifics for another project.

        CAR 4a 605. It is .15 gallons for each maximum horse power. 85 x .15= 12.75

I'm not sure where that comed from. The TCDS shows 18 gallon capacity for the BC12-D-85. There are Aeronca Champs that have 85 horsepower with 13 gallon tanks.
