Dear Taylocrafters, Thanks to everyone for replies to my earlier questions on '42 L2-A tailwheel. I am using original military parts catalogue AN 01-135DA-4 dated 7-10-42/5-1-44, section II page 74 fig. #41, parts assembly. I have a replacement spring set from UNIVAIR FAA/PMA for L2-A, same as BC-12D. Additional questions - all the holes in the springs are round not oval. The only oval holes I saw on the original prints were the most rearward. It looks to me like these are viewed as a top view and not projected at 90 degrees to the actual surface of the hole. That would mean they are round and only look oval on the print.??? It looks to me like the two shorter springs would slide on each other and the long bottom spring. Am I correct in assuming this? If this is the case why would any of the springs need elongated holes??? There was some wear in the black which holds the actual tailwheel assembly where it bolts to the springs. It is about .005 - .007 oval front to back and needs to be rebushed. There is a steel bush in it already that is worn. Looking at Hank Jarret's t-wheel assembly I see what looks like two pads under the bracket that holds the springs to the vert. stab. These are shown in the parts drawings as A - 5018 and as being one below and one on top of the spring assembly. Is this correct or what are the pads actually made of and how thick are they??
What is D - 1215 used for?? It is not in my parts catalogue. I assume the bolt AN6-15 which holds the block and twheel assembly on is torqued to general spec. Sorry for all the questions. I am going into my third replacement AN6 bolt. Thank you for all the help and will happily return same to anybody. Located Boston, NY.
