  • Wing tank fuel valve

Where was the fuel valve for the right wing fuel tank in a '41 Deluxe located? At the wing root or behind the panel above the co-pilot's knees?

    Wingroot best I can remember.

Mine is a Deluxe and the shutoff is behind the panel bottom above the passengers left knee. I really think the better place is in the wing root since there are less places for fuel to leak from the wing tank that way. I have a feeling the factory did it both ways, depending on who was putting the valve in that week.

The Deluxe wing tank shut-off was originally in the wing, with a push-pull control protruding through the headliner into the cabin. The overhead knobs matched the other push-pull knobs on the panel. It could be that some were built later in the year with valves under the panel I suppose. I can only remember ever seeing one Deluxe that retained the original configuration, all others I've seen have been reconfigured with one or two valves under the panel. Like Hank says, that's probably the better place for them, easier to inspect and work on, and no knob to bang your head on.
