Re: BC12d being rebuilt in Souht Africa

This particular frame is off another plane since the original was written off last year.
I do know that the model initially was a 1946, however the spars say 1942 :-)

What are the log books N number and SN as well as the current fuselage and wing SN? The AIRPLANE is and always will be the SN in the Airworthiness Cert and Logs, but knowing what parts have been swapped around will make the repairs and rebuild much easier to do. There were a LOT of subtle changes made over the years (and a few not so subtle!).

I hear you about the differences!

That little tube welded to the inside of the tail post just is so "wrong" I can not figure out why someone would have done it.
Maybe as an elev stop for elevators that did not have the pulley for the tab.
Ah well, first thing tomorrow morning it is gone.

That little tube is (was) there for a reason, (not for a BC12D as best I can see it). It is an elevator stop of some description.

Theuns, what is the airframe serial number (the one stamped on the door frame or the one stamped behind the throttle panel?

I wonder if his fuselage might be a pre war one that used to have a flipper trim and back then the pulley wasn't in the way. Would it have even worked as a stop with the trim system not there?

I had a look at two Austers today; they both have the errant tube to which Theuns refers. That picture is indeed an elevator stop.

It makes me wonder where your fuselage came from, Theuns ?

For what it is worth about the T standoff and the bend angle… it is allowable for a cable to turn up to seven degrees through a fairlead. More than that requires a pulley. The T standoff also has copper tube inside to let the steel cable rub on softer copper.

I completed the fabric onto the fuselage today, tomorrow I will start with the tapes (all polli fiber)
Hopefully on Fryday I will see the owner and will try get more info about the frame.

Re: BC12d being rebuilt in Souht Africa

Hey guys. I add a pew pix of the fabric on the fusleage. ALl Pollifiber system.
Sorry for the poor quality of the pix.

As for the fuse frame, I understand it was not a repaired one like I initially though, but rather one found somewhere.

Hopefully if the weather holds all painting will be complete in a week or so's time.

Fuselage all done and safe in the owner's hanger, undercart is on and I will go do the final assembly and rigging when they have put in all the "extras" like panel, seat, engine ect.

Re: BC12d being rebuilt in Souht Africa

Hi all, been a tad busy with a Citabria and the BC-12 took a back seat.
We installed the windshield the weekend and it is almost starting to look like a plane now.
The owner will now do the engine, electrical and instrument instelation, I will then go do the final rigging before flight.

Please pardon the poor cell pic.

Looks like the hole for the 20mm cannon barrel.

I was thinking that the extra heat produced by the luscombe dual exhaust piped into that heat box might be a really good idea.....it might even keep your knees warm along with one foot.
