  • A Diamond in the Rough; The Forgotten F-19

    Tribe,
A couple weeks ago I posted about an F-19 I found with intentions of using as a parts plane for Crispy. Since then I have found out that it is/was/will be N3677T,S/N F-085. The airplane was deregister and left the country(canada). As I was told, the story is that the gent who bought it pulled the long mount and electrics off of it so he could fly it off of a short frozen lake in the winter time and his driveway in the summer. The bird was never put on ski's and only flew 130 hours(+/-). After he went west the family stored the bird in thier garage from 1979ish until the mid to late 1990's where it was then discovered and trucked back to the US. The new owner reassembled the airplane, stuck some BC12D numbers on it and delivered it to a new owner in Tennessee where I found it,putting only about 10 hours on the airplane. The guy who bought it never flew it. He had intentions of putting it back to show condition as the F-19 that it was supposed to be but after 7 years of wings off storage in the back of a dusty hanger he decided to let me talk him out of it. When I first seen the airplane I didn't realize just how nice it was until I started looking inside the wings and inspection hole...it was as slick and clean as STP on a new crankshaft. I still thought it would have to be recovered because it was the original fabric anf paint from 1977 and it had sooo much dust and dirt on it that you couldn't tell what color it was..SERIOUSLY! Yesterday it warmed up enough to take a little soap and water to it(I now have a cold) and this is what I found. Check out the pics and tell me what you think. Keep in mind this is the original fabric and paint, this is not after waxing, buffing ,or anything except a little soap & water. The only extra paint on it is where someone painted over the original N# when it left the country. You can still make out a very faint shape of the original numbers under the paint if you catch the light just right.

More Pics. I have not cleaned the panel or any of the inside yet. I will post those pics after I get it cleaned up.It also appears the original N# (N3677T) is reserved by a government agency and is unabtainable so I have plan on using N677TC which is availible.
Also, look closely at the panel picture, look how clean and clear the windshield is...it is original!

            Kevin,

That is a "once in a lifetime" find. Cherish it. I hope you have documentation of the "find" as it was and in the rough!

If you have family, kids, friends, or anyone else out there who enjoys your company, make damn sure you do quit. You have no idea of the horror it puts on THEM to watch you go that way, and then the empty part of them for the rest of their lives having to live without you.

It's a horror for you too, trust me.

And then there's the part for the last few weeks where you are unconscious or too f***d up on Morphine to even say goodbye to your kids, or tell them you love them, or tell them you're proud of them or whatever. That's just got a great effect on the rest of their lives.

The last thought you'll have is something like "But now I'll never be there to protect my kids from all the harm out there in the world, or to help them become successful" (or fly that beautiful F-19 on its 50th birthday)

If there's anything I can do to help paint a more terrible and disgusting picture in your mind of what happens, just let me know. I'm glad to be the bad guy here no matter how many people get pissed off.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, won't do it again.

Re: A Diamond in the Rough; The Forgotten F-19

I watched my father in law die from tobacco and several good friends so far. Watching someone you love slowly choke to death is beyond my ability to present.
I am not the least bit ashamed to harass any friend who smokes into hating me if it gets them to stop. Some just won't quit and I have had to give up on them (my father in law was one). If someone is trying to stop, I will do everything I can to support them. Even hijack a thread.
I would quit for a ride in your new F-19 (if I hadn't quit over 30 years ago).

Bill, you sound like my wife and my mother.....but that's a good thing I guess.

I've been 3 weeks smoke free(well,I might have slipped ONE,only one, last weekend while drinking beer and watching the Bud Shootout). But other then that it has been 3 weeks without a smoke.

                        Good on you!

You see, my ranting had an ulterior motive. Kevin, you're one of the good guys as far as I know... you like Taylorcrafts, your hangar photo shows other neat old taildraggers, and you're quick to offer help on this forum. Those are the kinds of people that need to live longer, for the sake of aviation.

If it wasn't too overly obvious by my previous post on the subject, that ranting was based on terrible, life altering (negative), nuke-your-whole-world, personal experience.

Just put it together, don't throw your whole story on THAT ship around too much. I quit smoking three times; the 1st time, the 2nd time & the LAST time. Just do it, do not cheat, I have autopsy photos of smokers lungs, looks like an old B-B-Q pit.....
