    Yep- the Tcraft just needs a little more exit area to really help. FWIW my clipwing with the O-200 gets to 210 or so when I am really pushing it hard on these hot summer days. When and if I ever rebuild it I will open it up even more. I do not worry about the 210 but oil pressure on the small continentals really drops off over 200 degrees. Mine goes from 50 psi at 185 to 40 psi at 210.

      I would consider installing Alon inner cylinder baffles and oil tank baffle. They better direct the air around the cylinders and oil tank and help keep the temps down

        I don't suppose you have any pictures of or sources for Alon baffles?

          Univair has or had the tank baffles. The cylinder baffles are thin stainless and wrap tightly around the cylinders. Real SOB to install or remove. sorry no pics

              Many of us have the opposite problem here in Alaska. I have been told that oil temps should be consistently in the 190 to 200 degree range to make sure that any water (via condensation, etc) is burned off in the oil. I have trouble getting temps up to that range in both the Cessna 185 and in my Taylorcraft.

              Having just completed a rebuild on the Tcraft (which includes a zero-time C85 engine and a new cowling with a significant gap and louvers) I found it was running very cool ... like down around 140 degrees on a 60 degree day. I had to install a cover in the front air scoop and put duct tape on the cowling grill to get my temps up. I am now running consistently at 200 degrees and it's been in the mid 60's to low 70's here the last week or so. Here is a pic taken a couple days ago on one of the Knik River sandbars, just below Pioneer Peak. The pic shows the cowling and the things I've had to take to get the temps up.

              I guess I would rather have to take these measures here in Alaska than struggle to keep the engine oil cool enough down in the "lower 48".

                With the oil pressure dropping off like that you might have to much clearance in the cam bearing surface. When the engine was overhauled were the case halfs surfaced and line bored? Tom
