I got 4 at the flea market at either S-N-F or Osh (don't remember which) a few years ago. I saw them there for from $5 each to ~$30 each. Guess which ones I bought.
You really only need the short plugs on the front two holes. Where do I get a mag with two shielded and two unshielded leads?

        Short plugs

Regarding the short plugs. Each Tcraft is DIFFERENT!

Remember how at the factory they measured with a micrometer and then cut it off with an axe. Sometimes only a short plug is needed on the #4 cyl ( left front) ; sometimes the little can
( Ercoupe) is used over an unshielded one in that location.
If you are rebuilding and do not want the "bumps" then set the cowling up high in the front. Yes the prop may not come out the exact center of the hole but the plug will clear the nose cowl, maybe on a new cowl you can bump up the cowl to clear...
Checking the TC of the engine will not work the updates are about 30 yrs old. Check with the plug manufacturer & get a letter. OR PUT IT IN & go fly..

Resurecting an OLD thread here but there is a guy on e-BAY that keeps selling sets of "BG Aviation Spark Plugs" made by the BG Corporation New York, New York. Part #AU487s. They look like the old, short unshielded plugs that came in our engines prior to WW-II but I haven't been able to find any info on them. Does anyone know what they are and what they were used on. I don't need any shelf decorations but if these are NOS plugs that were any good for a good price I would like to (going to anyway) get rid of those ugly cowl bumps.

            Re: Short shielded plugs?

This thread has been cold for a LOOOONG time! New question on unshielded plugs (I'm NO ENGINE guy)

What is the difference between a C-26 and a C-27 plug? The new guides don't really fit the old numbering system. I assume the number difference is to do with the heat, but really have no idea. The C-26 is listed in the old overahaul manual for the A-65. Is a NOS C-27 OK? Where do you find info on the old plugs?

              Re: Short shielded plugs?

If you look at the TCDS it list the approved spark plugs. the C-27 is on the list. Tom

Yea, but what does the 26 and the 26 mean?

                  Re: Short shielded plugs?

                  They were the plug before the C-27 ;

I WILL look it up , but they were not to be used when the C-27 came out way back when.... 40's . the BG's that I have could be taken apart and cleaned and put back together. I do have a spark plug guy on the field , owns a Fleet 16 B and we all have been known to use the C-26's to this day. more when I get it.

                    Re: Short shielded plugs?

So the NOS C-27s and M41Es are still good to go on an A-65-8!

I still haven't seen an REM 37BY. I was told they are as short as an unshielded plug and they are shielded. I was also told the UREM 40E was 5/8" shorter but haven't ever seen one of those either.
