Re: Where should I send my Cylinders for repair?

Wow, I didn't even think about looking on EBay. good idea
But I didn't see anything there that left me with the warm fuzzy feeling that I'm looking for.
I called Fresno. They don't have any new or any reconditioned C85 cylinders.
He mentioned that the O-200 cylinders are the same, I'd just have to swap the valve springs to use them on the C85.
But he didn't have any new or reconditioned O-200 cylinders either.

I suspect that O-300 cylinders are useable also but am not 100% sure.

p.s. I am sure now that the cylinder is ok to use, springs and valves may not match but SB SID94-4F and M92-8 convince me the cylinder can be used.

Just went through search for 0-300 cylinder. Same situation as Tim is in now.

Re: Where should I send my Cylinders for repair?

It looks like I found two cylinders at Aircraft Specialties (which Mark Julicher recommended, thanks Mark) in Tulsa. It took several phone conversations because they weren't sure if they had them, then they weren't sure that they were for C85 or for O200. Finally, I got the word that they are new ECi cylinders, for C85, with piston, rings gasket kit, valves, springs etc. But without rocker arms and without valve cover. $918 each http://www.aircraft-specialties.com/...l-tist61-1eca/

And the pistons and rings come in a box, so setting the ring gaps is something my IA will have to do. He asked Aircraft specialties what the ring gaps should be, but they couldn't tell him.

So I think that I'm gonna pull the trigger and buy these two. Is it normal to sell cylinders without rocker arms and without valve covers?

Setting ring gaps is not something an IA is allowed to do.

You will be OK though, because he is also a A&P. A&P's are allowed to set ring gaps.

Clarification.... "P's" are allowed. Not "A's". Ring gaps is a powerplant function.

Does anybody know what are the correct ring gaps for these ECi C85 cylinders?

Unless you have specific information from ECI to the contrary, follow the Continental's recommendations.

ECI Service Instruction 94-4-1 provides the info. It's probably online, if not let me know and I'll send you a copy.

I collected this info when I had my C-85 Stroker built with ECI cylinders.

Re: Where should I send my Cylinders for repair?

I also think ring gaps are online Tim, but if you don't come up with the data I can probably find it at the shop on Monday. You won't go wrong using Continental numbers either. Really hope to see you at Ft Parker!

I have some Millennium cylinders that did not come with valve covers and some new Millenniums that did come with valve covers. Crazy. These are installed on my O-200 for the F-19. BTW, the latest Millennium cylinders have much thicker castings on the fins than the earlier Millenniums.

Now that ECI no longer makes Continental cylinders, Superior is swamped with business and cylinder overhaul shops can't keep up with demand either.
We have had a cylinder at a shop in Tulsa since August and it is not done yet. This is at a repair shop that I have used and really like. Very disappointing.
                          Best Regards,
                          Mark Julicher

The info regarding P/N combinations, ring gap, and ring side clearance is at the bottom of this link from my post above: http://eci.aero/pdf/94-4-1.pdf

Recent Foreign Investment has limited the engine component players and probably will improve their future profit margins.
