  • New to the clip wing T-Crafts

I am looking for some performance spec's on what a Lycoming 0-320/0-360 160-180hp clipped T-craft will perform like?

    Top Speed:
    Cruise Speed:
    Rate of Climb:
    Stall Speed:

The Taylorcrafts NACA 23012 wing seems to be an all around better performer than the USA 35B wing which is on my experimental short wing Pacer. I would be interested to know how much quicker at cruise setting my Pacer would be with the Taylorcrafts airfoil. There are a few Cub and long winged Pacer guys using the Taylorcraft wings and they seem to like them, but I have yet to come across any of the short wing Piper guys using the clipped T-Craft wings.

    Thanks,
    Jon

You might try bully aero. I think his name is Eric minns. I spoke with him a few years back. He is very knowledgeable about t crafts, clip wings, builds them, flys them in air shows. Easy to talk to, knows his stuff. He is in North Carolina as I recall.

Re: New to the clip wing T-Crafts

      Hello Jon:

Firstly, welcome to the Taylorcraft forum!

Secondly, Joe (above) is correct in that Eric Minnis is very experienced on clip wing Taylorcraft. He'll chime up in a while because he's on this site as AcroEric.

In the interim, his website is www.bullyaero.com Edit: I just tried it and it seems it's off-line at the moment. But he's on FaceBay under "BullyAero"

      Again, welcome.

Re: New to the clip wing T-Crafts

Thanks guys. I had the chance to see a clip wing T-Craft under construction once and the guy used blank aluminum Piper spars along with aluminum T-Craft ribs. He told me he should see 140mph with the 0-200 he was going to be using. The Taylorcraft seems to have the best of both worlds with a higher cruise speed and low stall speed. Don't get me wrong my Pacer is a nice flying airplane but I would like a little bit more speed out of her.....

        Cheers!
        Jon

Another one of our own on here has knowledge. That would be Tom Baker, Jr. (3Dreaming on the forum).
          Cheers,

Re: New to the clip wing T-Crafts

I don't think 140 is a realistic number for a 100HP clip wing. The C-90 powered clip wing that I have flown cruised at around 110. I can say that a 100hp clip wing T-Craft compared to a clip wing Cub will be in the neighborhood of 25- 30 mile an hour faster at best guess. That being said I doubt you will see that much gain because you are starting with a faster airplane, and with the increased speed drag will have a greater effect.

You can increase that out of the cub to compare with the clipped T by using the O200, in closed cowling, and clipped taylorcraft wings. Of course ya have more room in the tcraft but a lot of guys prefer the tandem seating for acro....doesn't bother me either way.
