  • From what I have been told the US DOES make 87 octane unleaded. The problem is it costs too much to distribute it for the small market we represent. The airport where I am based has a truck and goes direct to the distribution point (I live on the Chesapeake Bay and there is a major pipeline that ends here) where he gets 87 straight from the refinery. The guys who pick up the fuel said all the extra octane and additives are put in at the fuel depot.
    If there is a pipeline close and enough people to buy fuel by the tanker truck you still CAN get straight 87 octane.
