Marc, I would STRONGLY recommend you NOT put cast Mag hinges back in your plane. I have seen way too many fail like yours did and it scares me both failed at the same time. There was a letter from Dorthy allowing use of the pre war welded steel hinges and bell crank support and as far as I have ever found there has NEVER been a failure of one. Several of us had started working on making replacement welded hinges since they are only available from wrecked or scrapped planes. They CAN be made as "owner produced parts" but those interested in the project all have welded hinges already. Made teh project kind of low priority. Are you interested in trying to make (or having made) welded hinges? Glad to share all the data if you are. It is something the community really will be needing soon.
My email is [email protected] and my phone is 757-420-7698 (mention Taylorcrafts if my wife answers, she hangs up on Medicare calls). I have a set of cast mag parts that are in pretty good shape to make a fixture with for making welded hinges but I WILL NOT let them be used to put on a plane. Both of my planes have pre war hinges. I have just seen way too many failed cast hinges
