  • New Foundation Photo Archive

The Foundation has put up a 2nd software package called Gallery on our server that provides for fairly automatic uploading, storage and retrival of images. The images are organised into albums and sub-albums. Hopefully arranged and titled in a way that makes it easy for you to retrive.

We have loaded the advertisements you see here, with a lot higher resolution so they can be reproduced with the best possible apperance.

As we get into the photo archive at the Foundation, more will be cleaned, scanned and loaded here.

We are also looking into the option of allowing Foundation members to store their own albums, but we don't want to compete with the great support you are getting from other Taylorcraft web sites.

    The gallery is at http://gallery.taylorcraft.org

Click on a thumbnail, it will enlarge, click on it again and again, and you will get even greater resolution and size.

Feedback and ideas are always welcome.

      Bob,

Is this gallery now open for foundation members to post pictures etc.? If so, how do you get a username and password? I tried the username and password that I use for this forum but they were rejected.

This gallery would be an excellent spot for members to post rebuild pictures etc. Is that partially what was intended?

its available for Taylorcraft Foundation members that are comfortable with photos, Internet and figuring out things for themselves.

We have not yet worked out the details for making it as easy to use as a Taylorcraft.

On the other hand, You can't break anything trying...

Its completly seperate from the forum software we are using so for now you will need to do a little housekeeping to get yourself setup on the gallery, takes maybe a minute extra.

go to gallery.taylorcraft.org with your web browser

click the register button and enter the user name and email address you want to use on the gallery (might as well use the same name you used to register at the Forum).

you will be emailed some registration info which has a web link in it, click on that to confirm your registration and pick a password (again, might as well use the same password you picked for the Forum registration to keep things simple for you)

Ok, now login with your new name and password to the Gallery (click the login button).

Then go to the Member Folders Gallery
and in there, pull down the admin menu at the top of the screen, and create a sub-gallery. Note this is the only Gallery that you have permission to create a sub-gallery in.

Ok, now that you created the sub gallery (hit refresh on the web browser to see it). You should name it after you, and put a password on it to keep someone from Messing with it.

Then you can add photos, titles, captions etc to your hearts content.

good luck. Email me if you need help, Rob Lees is also there too for help.

          Photo Galler instructions and help

Here are some more instructions on using the Taylorcraft photo Gallery and how to set your sub-album up with your name on it.

          1. Go to the gallery (http://gallery.taylorcraft.org) and login with your username and password that you registered there with.
If you havent registered; you need to do that first. Note that the registration at the Taylorcraft Forum (http://vb.taylorcraft.org) is not the same thing, you have to register at both places seperatly.

          2. Then go to the user album folder "Taylorcraft Owners and their Airplanes"
          .
          3. Click and pull down the "Admin Options menu", and create your new sub-gallery folder by clicking "New Nested album".
Note that there may be other newly created albums there already from someone elses previous experiments.

          4. Find the sub-album you just created (probably the last on on the screen) and click on it.

          5. Pull down the "Admin Options" menu again. And you should see about 10 or 12 options. If you only see 2, you probably have the wrong sub-album.
Pick the "permissions" option. Here you need to adjust who can change things in your sub-gallery. If you don't set it so only you can add, delete or change things then someone else could fiddle with your photos.

          5. Pull down the "Admin Options" menu again, and click on "Rename Album" Here you can set a better name to be used for people that you might send the Web URL too. Its not necessary you change this, it just looks better. Suggest you put in something like your login name here.

          6. Ok, there is the sneeky one. Pull down the "Admin Options" menu again, and click on "properties" here you can fill in the blank for "Album Title". This is what is shown over your sub-album on the screen. Suggest you use your handle or name used when posting on the Forum as that what others will know you by. While you are at it in the "Summary" field you can put in some descriptive about what your album is about.

Ok thats it. Go try all this!

            Bob,

I thought I was somewhat computer literate and your instructions seemed fine, but I couldn't get any pictures in the album. Looks like I managed to create several untitled albums (sorry about that), got one renamed, created a sub-gallery in another. The problem is when I browse and select a picture, how long should it take to upload? I tried a very compressed picture (50 k) several times and waited quite a while but nothing seemed to happen. Anyway if I could figure out how to remove the albums that I created I would. Perhaps you might want to do that to unclutter page two.

It uploads pretty past, 30 seconds on a dialup for the size, it then does some post processing before it goes into the gallery.

You might minimise all the other windows on your screen; when you do the add photos, browse and then start the process you will get a new pop up window that shows the progress of the processing. It will require you to click the "done" box when its finished.

I think you are close. Dont give up!

Another thing, When you add photos you wont see them in your album folder until you refresh the screen with your web browser to force it to load the recent version and display it.

                  Bob,

Well I got one picture in. Something seems wrong though. I have tried several times to upload single pictures and multiple pictures and it just doesn't seem to respond. Almost as if the server is busy or something. I have high speed cable internet and the pictures are only 50k but it doesn't seem to want to take them other than the once.

Maybe it has something to do with how much traffic there is on my internet connection?? I will try again in off hours. I get up early in the morning.

It's going down to -35 degrees here tonight!! Even my heated workspace is cold.

Some of you may have noted that I have been able to place several pictures in our gallery. Despite getting a few to upload, I am still having a lot of difficulty, to the point where I am going to have to give up because it takes too much time.

Any of the pictures I have been successful in uploading take around 10 minutes to upload. For each success, I have probably had about four failures where the upload isn't successful. I have not had a single success with multiple picture uploads. These pictures are only 50 kilobytes and I have high speed cable internet so this should happen fast. I must have something set up wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a setting I am missing?

                      Gallery posting

I posted today for the first time.. I copied (printed)the instructions from Bob Ollerton,.
I registered, then I formed a gallery for me.
I don't think you can post to other peoples galleries. I posted a picture so quick it scared me and I am on a dial up out here where we just got indoor toilets..... will play some more ASAP . Hang in there Grant , i had to go back twice to change stuff but it seemed to work great..... bye Forrest

I tried posting a few pictures from my work computer today and it worked just fine. The pictures uploaded very quickly. So I guess I have something wrong with my internet connection at home. Perhaps this is why I have also had difficulty posting pictures in these forums! I'll keep working on it.

Going down to minus 38 C here tonight. Just got in from blowing off the rink and the snowblower didn't even feel like running!

Will be starting to cover my tailfeathers in a Polyfiber seminar this weekend. Looking forward to that.

                        Cheers.

I got my internet connection fixed up and posted all kinds of restoration pictures to the gallery today. Works great. For those interested, see C-FXSU Rebuild in the gallery.
