    here is the newsrelease :

Press release: Alliance, Ohio July 2nd, 2007

Taylorcraft Owner’s Club Fly-In & Taylorcraft Old-Timer’s Reunion combined with the Ohio Aeronca Aviator’s Fly-In

Hosted by: Barber Aircraft Inc. & Taylorcraft Foundation Inc.

July 6th, 7th & 8th 2007. This 35th Annual event will be held again this year at the Alliance-Barber Airport (2D1), 3 miles north of Alliance, OH on Union Ave., State Rt. 225. Fly-In’s, Drive-In’s & Walk-In’s are all invited.
This the first year that the combined Taylorcraft & Aeronca Fly-In will be held the same weekend. The Aeronca event has been held the second weekend in August in previous year. Brian Matz President of the Ohio Aeronca Aviators, Bruce Bixler of the Owner’s Club and Forrest Barber decided to combine their efforts this year. The Aeronca airplane was built in Middletown, Ohio during the same time Taylorcraft was built in Alliance. There has always been a friendly rivalry and this may to lead to a few competitive events over the weekend.

This Fly-In that was first held here at the Barber Airport in 1973 will have the builder’s of the Taylorcraft airplane, (Taylorcraft Old-Timer’s) which was built in Alliance from 1937 through 1947 and again from 1968 through 1986, meeting with the present owners of any Taylorcraft in the world (Taylorcraft Owner’s Club). The Taylorcraft Foundation will have many presentations during the event, this non-profit 501 C 3 Foundation was formed to preserve the history & records of the various Taylorcraft companies that have operated in and around Alliance.

The prototype Model A Taylorcraft brought to Alliance on 7-7-36 will be flying each day with a Commemorative Flight over the Old Factory on Armour Rd. planned for Friday evening & Saturday morning at 8:15AM. The Aeronca portion will feature many old films and former employees from the factory in Middletown.

The event features Breakfast being served by the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter #82 on Sat & Sun starting at 7AM at the airport. This is open to the public at all times. A small parking donation after 9AM is required to be admitted to the field.
Flight demonstrations, many forums & other meetings on Saturday will have a special feature this year with a visit to the former Taylorcraft Factory at Webb & Armour beginning at 1:30PM on Sat. This site known now as SanCap is being opened for the first time in several years thanks to the co-operation of present owner Bob Stuhlmiller who also has the Marlboro Volunteers, Inc. use his grounds for their huge Military History shows in June & September. There will be a fly by over Alliance in the late afternoon or evening with a full membership meeting held on Sat evening at sunset in Hangar #2.

Pastor Forest Yoder will hold Sunday Morning Church Service at 8:45AM with his wife & vocalist, Ruth Yoder from Louisville, Oh.
Airplanes from all over the United States, Canada & Mexico will be arriving. The public will enjoy seeing these vintage airplanes that acted in many roles during and after World War II. Plenty of flying and Skydiving by Canton Airsports located on the north side of the airport will be another attraction. We hope to see many old friends come out and enjoy the festivities.

On Saturday morning the Old-Timer’s have their own Early Bird Breakfast at 8AM at Don Pancho’s Restaurant located on W. State St. in Alliance. Many of the Taylorcraft airplanes will fly over before their breakfast.
This year former employees and their guests will enjoy the Breakfast hosted by Duke Iden who has provided the leadership of the “Old-Timers” for the past 35 years. Duke says he will be buying Breakfast for all as he had done in years past.

OK all tribe members who went to the flyin/Pictures? Stories? Personalities? Bargains? New Information? If no one reports in those of us that din't attend will assume that it was just an excuse to go fishing and your stories are manufactured to simply placate spousal born queries.

              Ed,

I just downloaded my pictures and have to look at them. I mostly talked and asked a million questions. Let me see if I have any good pictures. Friday was slow, but Saturday was busy, busy. Also got to go through the factory with "Duke" Iden. Good stories and I also climbed through the ditch and stood out on what is left of the macadam runway. Cool stuff. Had to leave Saturday afternoon, though, due to other prior commitments.

              PS: I don't fish....
              Cheers,
              Marty

                  Re: Taylorcraft Fly-In to Alliance 2007 July6-8th

                  Kevin,

I bore easily, hence, no fishing. Which makes it strange that I own an L-2, as everything around it is faster and I get to see the same landscape like a slowly unrolling filmstrip. (For those of you who don't know what a filmstrip is, picture a bunch of 35mm slides taped together and shown with boring naration one picture at a time. For those who don't know what a 35mm slide is, I'm lost as you probably don't know what 35mm film is). My apologies to the rest of the older group here.

PS: Kevin, you still have an inner or outer magnesium hinge in very good shape you want to get rid of? You had one once I spoke to you about.
                  Cheers,
                  Marty

                    Marty;
Where did you post your pix? I know you were looking for L2 stuff -- did you find anything really neat? I fish and like it but if there are bugs, too much sun, nothing biting, I have a tendency to move to the shade and take a nap. To me fishing is an either a replacement for or an excuse for sleeping. As such I find fishing refreshing!

                      Ed,

I think I just signed up for the Foundation Gallery so it might be a bit before I can upload pictures. There were odds and ends like a wing tank and header tank and mutual BC-12 parts that also fit the L-2, but mostly BC-12 parts. There was an L-2 project fuselage and other assorted included parts present for sale, too. As you will find out it is like being the brother (L-2) of a bastard stepchild (BC-12) when it comes to parts. You just have to scrounge a little more.

I got to meet Dick Huish (Hi Dick), Bruce Bixler (Hi Bruce) and several other very nice Taylorcraft folk. An L-2 was supposed to show but other commitments kept him from being there, I think. I can't attach any images to this as they are usually too large. As soon as I get approved and figure out how to put the images on the Foundation Gallery I will do so.
                      Cheers,
                      Marty

Made it out to Alliance 2007! It was a beautiful flight out, scarcely a ripple on the mill pond, a comfortable ride for me and the Missus. Saw some old friends, my little brother, met some nice new folks. Unfortunately schedule kept me to just one day, on Saturday, and returning home same evening. 1 hr 50 minutes out from Altoona, PA, 1 hr 30 minutes back, ol' 44274 seems to know the way without my help! I checked my old pilot logs, first Taylorcraft Reunion trip to Alliance was made on July 6, 1975. I believe through the years I missed just two, although had to drive out twice due to unfriendly weather.

OK, I finally got some photos posted from the fly-in. They are on page 9 of the "Taylorcraft Owners and Their Airplanes" album.
