  • Taylorcraft 2005 Alliance, Oh., July 6th & on

Well here we are on Wed. July 6, 2005 ; two arrivals so far, getting all the little things done. Still scratching our heads at the A-40 in the proto-type A Model. The whole Taylor Family will be here in a motor home. Come one come all. I will send out the cards for the Taylorcraft Row at OSH right after the Fly-In here in Alliance. Three fellows wanted to pick them up here.

See schedule & press release repeated on this new thread for Current stuff on the fly-in. Let us know your progress towards Alliance on this thread. thanks Forrest, Patty & Kelli-Belle .

Well, I purchased copies of the Cincinatti and Detroit sectionals, I loaded the GPS with all the VORs, Public and Private Airports; replaced the batteries in the unit, packed my clothes, fretted over the weather for the last two days. Charged the gel cell. All that's left is to throw-up, and I'm pretty close to that. Planning on departing Front Royal around 0900 tomorrow; won't know if it's Barber direct or via Altoona until the morn. - Mike

Mike, Richard is right. The trip is a grand adventure. If, after you start out, the weather or anything else is not right just stop. Then enjoy the airport and the people there. Most folks at most airports are great. Have fun with the trip.

I do want to ask Rob Lees to confirm that he & his family are okay. WHAT a tragedy , maybe this will unite all to the cause to eliminate these terrorists once & for all! Mrs. Nuss was just back from London & stopped by here with Paul to say they had a funeral way over in Pa on Sat & will miss the Fly-In. I hope all is well after Cindy ( the tropical storm) and really are praying that this new one Dennis does weaken somehow. Good luck to all.

Re: Taylorcraft 2005 Alliance, Oh., July 6th & on

The week-end came off great. First in was Chuck & Connie Baughman from Hershey , Pa in their "Chevy", as usual they pitched right in and WORKED to make the fly-in a success. Flying in was#1. Mike Horowitz, Front Royal Va. N95822 , 1330 HRS , Thurs. The registration was started and we had a lot more coming by , I will attach the list ASAP.
Sat night award winners were a double award to :
Lee Bowden, Independence, Iowa for that Beautiful ship we flys that gleams like an Emerald!! " Longest Ownership" ( since 1960). "Longest distance" 650 miles. Just a wee bit more than Jim Zangger who flew in with Lee in his Red & Black beauty.
Then we had the "Oldest Taylorcraft" , yes folks a D Model finally broke into the ranks , 1943 L2M , Bret Gilmore, Muncie , Ind..
The "Newest Taylorcraft" was a 1979 something that he failed to register & Bruce forgot to write down.

I will have more real soon. Got to run and keep catching up. WE have lots of photos too!!

Re: Taylorcraft 2005 Alliance, Oh., July 6th & on

The planned events worked out pretty good. The Food vendor crapped out on us and WE had to improvise, a bunch on us went down to "Shorty's on Friday evening for the Fish & other stuff.

8AM Sat morning fly-by over the Old-Timers at Pancho's had a great turn out of Taylorcrafts , the most ever I believe.....I went there after the fly-by for the first time in 30 years to speak to the memory of Dorothy Feris .

After the Great Breakfast on Sat by the EAA Chapter #82., The Barber family along with Chuck & Connie jumped in with burgers, dogs, drinks, cookies, coffee etc. from 11AM to 5 PM on Sat . THEN on to the famous Brats & Corn ( a sell out) rounded out the evening. The planned social around the camp fire did not happen as the musicians ( Dulcimers, sp?) did not show either.
On Sat. at 1PM I went to the tent for the forums but nobody seemed to want to participate, there were a lot of small groups all over the field watching and learning. Another Clip-Wing showed up and I flew Leisa-Marie twice for the gang to see and drool. attached is the registration as given to me by the registration keepers....
