Taylorcraft Foundation News Winter 2003
Patty, Kelli-Belle and “Boots” (the cat) are firmly moved into the new home adjacent to the office and loving it. Just had to postpone our family Christmas Party due to the Flu epidemic around the country. Hopefully the runway will freeze solid in the next two days. We had about a foot of snow over an unfrozen soggy runway, WHAT a mess.!!
Well it has happened, Bob Ollerton has placed us upon our very own server for the list service. Some of you had big problems with their ISP’s (Internet Service Provider) around the country reacting in different ways to their mass mailings (spammers). WE had a big discussion about all this and Bob; Ruth & Tucker graciously came up with the server and the wonderful new program. If you get on the web site www.taylorcraft.org you can merely click on to the new server. You need to register and there are many advantages to the new method. If you put on your Birthday, there is a Calendar feature that will let all members know about this GREAT event! Age too!
I had a few reservations about any change but found the new service very easy to work with and the advantages are the forums groups and strings that you or Bob & I can change and tune as need be for the benefit of all members.
Bear with us and enjoy, the dues cards are going out next month for the Foundation. For those still over on “topica” come on over, we will phase out topica at the end of Dec.
The following comments from Bob Ollerton:
Some members were blocked by their ISP from receiving messages from the Topica hosted list. Out ot the 345 or so members, that’s about 30...
I have had email from 2 or 3 saying it’s too hard and they give up on the forum and will just hang around the email list until its gone.
I had 2 others complain, say they liked the simple email, but said they wanted stay with us regardless of the fact they did not like the web forum.
I am sorry we had a few that were disappointed but we have so many that are also pleased. And the 30 or so that were blocked can now read and post.
HERE is one of many, many comments about the new method: “Just surfed the area and I must say it is awesome. I can't wait until everyone is on. An easy A+”
There are about 200 members that are now registered, adding many every day.
WE will have areas for Daily Discussion; Taylorcraft Foundation News, Taylorcraft Owners Club news, Taylorcraft Aircraft factory news, and many other things like: Tandem models; Float rigged Taylorcrafts; Ski planes; New guy area; B models; Up grade with STC’s, 1A9 TC ( F-19, F-21, F-22) , Restorations, Training, GET THE DRIFT !! This all can be great.
For the MEMBERS out there not interested in the web based stuff Bruce will continue the newsletter quarterly, we will be at SNF, the annual fly-in here, OSH and a few regional Fly-Ins will round out this next year. Got to run pick up the truck from the repair shop, we are getting snow again right now. In the mean time:
“Happy Holidays to all and have a Prosperous New Year.”
God Bless All…. Forrest A. Barber; Executive Director Taylorcraft Foundation.
