  • Indian Air Force Tiger Moth

So a Tiger Moth is not a Taylorcraft, so I post this in the "catch-all" forum.

The video below is of "Aero India" (an Asian aviation trade show like Farnborough or Paris, held in Bangalore, India).

Skip forward to the last item, the yellow Tiger Moth is the one I was involved in restoring last year, and I went out to Delhi to be part of the team that reassembled & rigged it after we airfreighted it out there.

It's now in Bangalore for Aero India (a testament and full credit to the fast-jet IAF pilots who had before this never flown such a "lowly" rag-and-timber biplane. They flew it from Delhi via the coast, so a little like flying from Florida to Galveston via Memphis).

That lovely yellow dope is all mine!

(Sorry about the advert, it's not of my doing).

Aero India 2013, considered Asia's premier air show, was held just outside Bangalore where some of the world's best pilots displayed their astounding and death-defying skills.

Very special. Were you privy to some flight time Rob?

Jim, I would not fly in a Tiger Moth if it was carrying my coffin.

It's the most dreadfully-designed aircraft in the world. Seeing the structure of it, I wouldn't risk my life. It weighs more than twice as much as a Taylorcraft, it was designed about the same time; it has too many wings, and there is no protection in a crash.

      And they fly dreadful.

Owners love them, but for what reason I know not.

Well, it sure looks good Rob, nice work! I've never flown in one so I can't disagree with your opinion about the flying and safely qualities.

I won't begin to question your opinion on safety, but I really enjoyed flying the TM the one time I had an opportunity. It was a blast.

First taildragger I flew was a Tigermoth. Except for the prop turning the wrong way, it was a lot of fun. But then, I was young and even more foolish than I am now.
