  • Aviation tax repeal

I am somewhat out of touch and uninvolved with politics other than election time. I am Thankful for the voice of AOPA. I received this email this morning. I would not have known about it otherwise.

I emailed my assembly rep with my views and I may attend the meeting.

    Jim

The Mat Su Borough Assembly is considering an ordinance to repeal the aircraft registration tax at their meeting on Tuesday March 6. This would save single-engine aircraft owners $75/year, and owners with multi-engine aircraft $125 annually.

Ordinance 12-040, which eliminates the tax, was sponsored by Assembly Member Darcie Salmon, in support of the Mat Su Aviation Advisory Board recommendation.

AOPA encourages you to support this resolution either by contacting your assembly member, or to provide testimony at the public hearing, which starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6th, at the Assembly chambers, 350 E. Dahlia Ave., Palmer.

For more information, visit http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/article...ax-repeal.html. Or, you may respond to this email with questions.

    Thank you for your action.

      Good for you!

They are trying to add additional tax to aircraft and pilot registration in Illinois as we speak.

Plus, being the only state in the Union that does not allow concealed carry, the Mayor of Chicago - Rahm Emanuel - now wants to tax every handgun you own for $65.00 each. Since Chicago can't seem to stem the tide of gun crime they are going to tax law abiding gun owners as well as place a 2% tax on ammunition. The 2% tax money will go to hospitals to help offset people injured in shootings.

So if you cannot stop the gang shootings, etc., just tax the rest of us even more to help pay for their hospital bills. Illinois has become a scarier place to live than before.

They are trying to pass a concealed carry bill right now but I bet it falls short just a vote or two.

I keep looking at TN, TX, OK, AZ & NM wondering how long it will be before they get fed up and tell the rest of the country to just BUTT OUT. They don't need to succeed from the union, just post the Guard at the borders and tell the feds they are restricted to Constitutional activities only or the local Sheriff will lock them up. The CONSTITUTION is ON OUR SIDE. If the federal government is RESTRICTED TO ONLY WHAT THE CONSTITUTION ALLOWS, most of the problems disappear (we will get new ones, but I am confident they can be handled). It's time to take the country back, AT THE BALLOT BOX! I just wish we had realistic Constitutionalists who were going to be on the ballot.

            Re: Aviation tax repeal

The problem we have is that we are rife with crooked politicians, mostly from Chicago. We have a governor in prison and the latest one reports next Thursday to prison.

The Chicago Mayor, formerly the father and son team of Daleys who wiped Meigs Field from the map, is now Rahm Emanuel who seems to forget there is another inept governor in-charge now. Emanuel wants to start writing laws for the rest of us downstate residents. We are hugely in-debt due to the last governor (the one on his way to prison). This state is a nightmare to live in.
            Cheers,
            Marty

              Re: Aviation tax repeal

The states were originally seen as the experimental laboratories for government. The concept of mandatory health insurance (as an example) is completely appropriate for a STATE to implement. If it works in one state, others can follow suit. If it doesn't, it will be removed by the citizens or those citizens will vote with their feet and move to another state. Same for abortion, tolls, public private partnerships....... We should be testing these concepts IN THE STATES, not at the federal level. that's why the Constitution so carefully defines what the federal government CAN do, not what it can't. EVERYTHING not given to the federal government by the Constitution is reserved for the several states.
I am afraid if I lived in Illinois (and CERTAINLY if I lived in Chicago) I would be LEAVING, even if I had to WALK. If you can't change things at the ballot box, it is time to seriously consider moving to a state that more closely aligns with your beliefs and the way you choose to live your life. I'm afraid IL and PA may be too far gone to change. That's why I keep looking at places like TX, OK and TN. They seem to have an education system that actually instills an understanding of how things are SUPPOSED to work. Obey the law! If you don't agree with the law, work to change it (through the system). If the majority says they WANT the law, it's time to move.
