  • Captain Honor mayday

I assume that Captain Honor is...or was a Navy Pilot. That means that he landed at night in the rain on a carrier, Probably flew combat. risked a cold cat shot, flew in all kinds of weather and so forth. In addition to that he had to display leadership qualitys that brought him to 2nd in command of a floating five thousand person fighting city. In addition , he made it thru Naval Aviation cadets , no mean feat! The supposed politically incorrect (barracks humor they used to call it) video he made happened 4-5 years ago! Most shipmates interviewed said "right on! he's a cool dude and an excellent leader!" The ground pounders said not so. So the brass had to fire him. Glen Close, the movie actor, (who used to be called an "Actress")says shes "deeply offended" as he used her picture. Ahhhh, so sensitive! Does anyone remember the adultress nut case nympho she played opposite Mike Douglas? So very sensitive! (can't remember the movie title.) During the time all this was going on, the President and vice were lying about weapons of mass destruction, 4500 American troops were being killed, Trillions spent, Iraqi civilians ,women and children killed (over 200,000) and they are building a memorial library for him in Texas! Strange prioritys! JC Comments PLEASE!

    Re: Captain Honor mayday

Captain Honor was an F-14 pilot and was at Top Gun. He is one of the best of the best. EVERYONE knew about those movies. I am pretty sure all the carriers had them for years and frankly his were better than the ones we used to see. They could run an hour long and most of it was good hearted ribbing of those who screwed up and survived, solemn remembrance of those who screwed up and didn't survive and some fun stuff thrown in for laughs. Remember the average age on a carrier is 19 years old. They eat up the gross, vulgar, and politically incorrect. The movies made it FUN. What they are showing on TV is the worst of the worst cut and pasted together. There is a LOT that is imagination. When they show a guy bouncing up and down in a chair from the back it usually ends when someone turns the chair around and he is tearing the stuffing out of a toy animal, NOT what you THOUGHT he was doing! Two people in a shower is a joke that went back to the 70swhen I was in AT LEAST! NO, YOU DON'T GET 6 MINUTES IF YOU SHOWER TOGETHER, but "Save water, shower with a friend" signs have been in Navy heads AS A JOKE forever. We were never sure if it was a joke on (insert branch of service here) bases.
His supervisors knew he was making them, the Admiral knew he was making them, HELL THE PENTAGON KNEW HE WAS MAKING THEM, just like almost EVERY ship. When there started to be complaints, the complaints would have gone through review, as they were, and he stopped making them (yes, there was a delay between the complaints and stopping, NOTHING goes through legal fast!)
If he was going to get in trouble it should have been when it happened. They smiled, saluted and stopped when the "political correctness" squad said stop. This is old news and we just lost a great skipper to "Political Correctness". No one seems to be stepping forward as the ones who threw him under the buss. There is an agenda here and a good mans career has been destroyed. Everyone I have talked to says they would deploy with him in a heartbeat.

At least we agree on Captain Honor. He has an appropriate name.

Rant over. I'm not touching the Bush comments, we are getting along again.

As an Army Aviator and Vietnam Vet, I can say without fear of contradiction, that one of the ways you deal with stress in a combat zone, is to make fun of everybody. You find ways to get your mind off the obvious. What the Captain did may be viewed in bad taste now but at the time it was considered essential. I'm sure the only people upset by his actions are people with NO military experience, much less combat experience. It's time for the panty waists to get over it.

Its a real sad, sad thing. A fine career ruined by a bunch of cheap seats. Someone should step in, but the military usually switches to "don't make waves" mode in this type situation and runs for cover. I would have called him in the office, told him not to do it again then accompnied him to the OC for a round, then put him in for promotion.JC

That WAS what happened. These movies are from YEARS ago when he was XO. He has had a tour as CO of another deep draft plus he should have had a shore tour followed by his time aboard Enterprise as CO so far. You don't get selected as CO of Enterprise unless you are REALLY GOOD. They don't call her "Show Boat" for nothing.
Somebody had it out for him and threw him under the bus. Now the Gold Braids are afraid to stand up for him.
