I have thought about this some but probably not enough. Comments appreciated. Ideas really appreciated.
The government doesn't appear to be able to do anything productive in the way of increasing the employment in this country (except maybe waiting 3 or 4 years for it to take care of itself (if ever.) No one is doing anything about the trade deficit either. If you look at it closely you will see that there is additionally a connection between the Federal deficit and the trade imbalance.
How about this: NATIONAL BOYCOTT OF CHINESE MANUFACTURED GOODS. Not government backed, or controlled. By the people of this country, voluntarily.
It Would kill several birds with one stone. One drawback, people working for retailers that deal in mainly in Chinese products are going to suffer. You know who I am talking about.
I don't mean massive sacrifice, just look at the package and if it says Made in China, don't buy it for the duration of the boycott. If your dead car needs a part and you can't get one made in Mexico, or Taiwan or US, go ahead and buy the Chinese one. But with any option, don't.
If we start making things in the U.S.A. again you will have to pay more for it, but your neighbor and your kids will be able to have a job.
Second use (probably of several), do it and then tell China to do something drastic about North Korea. Like fix it and maybe we will start buying SOME of your stuff again.
If we did this it would stop the Chinese from buying up the world's resources with the money that WE give them. Averaging lately about $250 Billion a year. That is just a little less than $1000 each per man, woman, children in the US per year.
Final question, does the American public have what it takes to do this and how does one organize it?
It is one MAJOR POWER that we, the people, have control over. Tactical logic in any "fight" is to hit the biggest guy first.
Headline: "If you buy Chinese and your neighbor it out of work, it's YOUR fault."
