Here is a pic of the floats I made for my Pietenpol Sky Scout. Sold the Scout. Hope to finish the floats someday and put them under something. Will be planked with 1/16 sitka ala herringbone.

I don't know anything about floats. What is the material as shown in the photograph? Looks like some pretty fancy curves on the structure. Nice workmanship.

      Darryl,

The floats are my own design and a compilation of several proven designs. The formers and stations are 1/4" aircraft ply. The stringers are sitka spruce. I planked the first bottom "herringbone" with 3/16" basswood. The bottom planking(planing surfaces) will be 1/16 sitka 2" wide. I will skin the uppers with 1/32 ply and then ceconite. All the stringers were steamed before fitting to formers. Fun project.

Thanks for the information. Fine wood work. I have always been quite taken with wood aircraft. I guess my favorite is the DH Mosquito. It is a fantasy project to make a 3/4 replica using two blown small bock chevrolet engines. Maybe wood/composite.
