Re: OT: Roasting coffee
I drink tea. I delivered most of that through my nose all over my shirt.
Hank
Still snickering, but can't figure out what the heck is so funny about coffee beans in a popcorn popper? I've heard your delivery in person. Funny, but not THAT funny. By the way, how do popped coffee beans taste? Do you put butter on them or cream?

Put in 3/4C of green beans (I can point you to an inexpensive source, but for now, just go to your favorite coffee roaster and buy a pound of Colombian Supremo. Plug it in outside (lots of chaff and it will smell; nice coffee smell but wife may not want it in the drapes for a week). If it's cold outside, put the popper in a box or surround it so heat is kept in. In a few minutes you will hear something like popcorn popping. That's called 'first crack'. Smile and keep going. At about :10, you will hear a sound like clicking fingernails (Second crack). Wait about 30 second more, unplug the popper, pour the roasted beans in a collander or a cool pan and let them cool. Let them outgas overnight. Grind what you need tomorrow morning. Use 2T. for every 6 oz of water. I use a french press to brew mine.
If I want to get really fancy, I'll make 'close to' expresso using my mokapot.

Now if anyone wants to talk about Double-edged razors, shaving cream and badger-hair brushes, I'm up for that too. As you can tell, I'm avoiding drilling a hole in my leading edgeMike Horowitz
