  • Identifing a pilot

If you are in a group of 20 strangers and one of them is a pilot, how will you know which one he is?

Don't worry, he will tell you

    Re: Identifing a pilot

I used to work with a great guy who was a Naval aviator, corporate pilot and test pilot. Whenever we were out we would all time how long it took him to tell someone new he was an "Aviator" (in the Navy, a "Pilot" is the guy who comes out in a little boat to drive a big boat into port). I don't think we ever passed two minutes, and I suspect she was deaf and he couldn't figure out how to weave it into the "conversation". ;-)

Great guy by the way and we are still close friends after over 30 years.

"You dont ask a man if he's a fighter pilot, if he is he'll let you know, if he's not, don't embarrass him." "Flight of the Intruder" 1990, Said by an Air Force pilot in answer to a Naval Aviator asking him "Gosh sir, are you a FIGHTER PILOT?" Major fight followed.

Say goodbye asshole....EJECT EJECT EJECT.. goodbye asshole

I love that movie! My favorite part of that same scene is the statement "fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... History!"

We had a HUGE banner that said that in the assembly hangar for the A-6 at NADEP Norfolk. Used to really upset the F-14 guys since BOTH communities had done
movies (Top Gun and Flight of the Intruder). We all came together in the end in our joint dislike of the "Lawn Dart" (F-18 series). Someday they will do a cartoon about the "Whore nut".

Flight of the Intruder is also one of my favorite movies and I was a tech advisor for it. Still have the ball cap and a painting signed by William Phillips and Steven Coonts called "Going in Hot". It is hanging right behind me right now.

That is SO COOOL!! I am in the shadow of giants! That's funny with the F-18's. I guess now would not be the time to mention I make my living in rotary wing aircraft (AW-139 and S-92's)
