Maybe they were landing with a strong crosswind and ran out of rudder with one main wheel on the ground and wanted to use those wonderful heel brakes to hold the airplane straight till you had it comletely landed. Marv

Thanks for the info. I have some hardware from an aircraft factory that was sold in a garage sale, all new parts. One of these is a clamp that wraps around the tubing with a rubber liner to keep it from chaffing. I think I will use it, as it will look better and be a little stronger.Leave a comment:

either will work fine We have original springs & ring here for $10.00 . They were put on when an accident happened because of the pedal coming back onto the floor.. ( during a landing too)Leave a comment:

I have a 41-bl-65 and all I have is a "ring?"- small hard wire ring that was welded to the frame- less then 1/16th inch thickness that the springs hooked into. I don't know about a clamp but it sure seems that a weld sure would be safer and almost as fast as putting a clamp inLeave a comment:

Rudder pedal springs
I have a 1946 BC12D. In the process of replacing the carpet in the cockpit we were trying to reinstall the springs attached the pedals and back to the firewall. The ring that these springs were attached to broke. It looks as if over the years the small washer that was welded to the frame wore through and snapped. Is there any reason that these springs need to be attached in the same manner on the frame? I would think a clamp around the frame with a hole in it to attach the springs would be sufficient. Spot welding another ring on the frame in such tight quarters does not appeal to me. Thoughts?
