  • Radio intercom question

We have a 41 T'craft with no electrical system. We use an antiquated hand held Icom IC-A21 with an external antena and remote PPT button. The radio is connected to a 9volt powered intercom system which has all served us well. The radio has failed and is not repairable. Our intercom system does not work with later model Icom radios. Does anyone have a low cost solution to our problem or know of a hand hald modern radio and compatable intercom system we could use to relace what we have. Any other suggestions as to a relatively low cost radio intercom setup would be appreciated.

    Re: Radio intercom question

As great as my Icom has been I would be hitting eBay for a replacement. Other than the battery pack mine has been bullet proof (and dry cell packs are nice to keep in the plane for when the rechargeable one dies).

I fly out of Class C airspace with an Icom A-6, (a couple of spare batteries including dry-cell), a Flightcom IIsx two-place intercom, external antenna and have great communications. The Flightcom you can get on Ebay fairly cheap if you are patient.

This is what I've used since 2006. Sporty's SP-200 and FlightTech ITC-401 intercom with PTT sits on seat betwixt pilot and passenger, antenna cable from whip on bottom of fuselage attaches top left of SP-200; easily portable.

Thanks everyone for the replies. When spring comes I think I am going to try a new IcomA6 / Flightcom llsx combination. Snowed in for now.
