Do the oil temperature and pressure gages on my 1946 BC12D need to be PMA/TSO? How about airspeed and altimeter?

Re: Engine Gages
Some of the modern electronic stuff is PMA'd but not TSO'd, it may be OEM for a cirrus but not TSO'd for installation for other aircraft. Most will not question a scott oil temp gauge or oil pressure gauges. You can get them both ways. Contact your IA if you have more questions. TimN29787

Re: Engine Gages
I used to use Kansas instruments to overhaul my airspeed, altimeter and tach, the others are cheap enough to buy new, "Scott oil temp and pressure."
For a gas gauge, get the J3 one from Univair, the cork one from Wag kept sinking. I never had a problem with a univair.

Re: Engine Gages
The original gauges were not TSO'd. They are approved because Taylorcraft "said so". Replacement gauges also do not need to be TSO'd, however, the installer needs a way to determine they are suitable replacements. A PMA or TSO is one easy way out.
