  • Safety stop cables

I'm about ready to install shock cords on my 1941 BC12. My question, is there two lenghts of safety stop cable. Does the pre war use a shorter cable ?. I have two sets of old cables in my boxes of parts, one is 261/2" the other is 24 inches long.

    Thanks,
    Norm G

    Re: Safety stop cables

I just measured the cables from my '46 BC-12D. They measured about 28" working length.
I know that this doesn't answer your question. I just thought that another data point wouldn't hurt.

      Re: Safety stop cables

The total length of the longer cable is 28". It was my understanding the cables are measured on center line of the cable loop, 26 1/2 vs 28". The shorter cable that I have is 24" C/L vs 25 1/2" total length. I just want to make sure that I install the correct safety cable on my plane.
I know the bungees are 1" shorter on the pre war, 9" vs 10" rings.

      Thanks

          Re: Safety stop cables

This jig, that I used to fabricate replacement landing gear safety cables for my BC-12D , has the "posts" on each end 26-3/4" apart...Center to Center. The posts are 1-1/8" inch in diameter. When I built safety cables by wrapping 3/16 " cable around the posts and securing them with Nicopress fittings, the finished cables measured right at 27-3/4 " (ie., stretching a cable straight and measuring the over-all length available, inside edge to inside edge.
