You will need to request this form from the FAA. Go to this page, you can download the bill of sale and at the bottom of the page will give you info on the registration form.

Re: Basket case
If the owner has passed away I think you need to get it from his estate. I would bet the plane was NOT bought by the scrap yard as an "airplane". It was probably bought by weight as scrap. From the FAAs position, the last REGISTERED owner will be the one you want to "buy" it from.
You also want to talk to whoever represents the estate about ANY paper that was associated with the plane. The owners may have all of the paperwork for sentimental purposes and be willing to let you make copies. Log books are something the children of owners seem to want to keep. It is probably not worth arguing with them that they go with the airplane and just try to get copies made. After they see the plane finished they may see that the paperwork actually should stay with their dads plane, but I wouldn't count on it. Become a friend to them because you are going to resurrect his plane and they may find treasure troves of old photos and papers later.

Re: Basket case
Vans you got lucky. I'm happy for you. My situation has still not been resolved. Both the last legal owner and the guy he sold it too are both dead with no family. The museum I bought my plane from has no paper work to prove where they got the aircraft from. I'm affraid I'm going to have to part out a complete aircraft which I don't want to do.
Anyone have any ideas?

Van I don't have an email on the site or my personal email. Try again please at [email protected]
Marv I haven't seen paper work anywhere for sale.
I kind of figured with all of the aircraft sitting in museums and the old guy's who use to build and fly them passing on that the FAA would have some sort of way to get a aircraft back into current registration in a situation like mine.
Ok I know I had a little to much hope in our government!

Re: Basket case
I went thru this last year with a champ project. Call the FAA and speak to someone about getting a registration for an abandoned aircraft. Basicaly what you do is send a registered letter to the last known owner, try to call him or her, save all the attemps at correspondence from that person showing they cannot be found. Wish I could remember the name of the guy I spoke to at Oklahoma City, he was very helpfull. GeorgeTF# 702 Don't be afraid to try something new. Remember amatuers built the ark, professionals built the titanic!

Flybikefarm. Thank you! Good info although I tried to argue that in the reg's but not as abandon
Hank, 46 BC12D. Came out of a museum in California. Last flew in 81. sold 82. Last owner and the guy he sold it to are passed and no family. Have the plane and all paper work and log books. Museum has no paper work on how they acquired the plane.
