  • Rudder and Elevator pulley cluster in cockpit on RHS

    Hi folks,
I am rigging up the elevators, trim tab and rudder before I start spraying dope.
My question is on the cluster of three pulleys in the cockpit on the floor on the right side.
Are there any washers in between the pulleys and the metal support brackets?
I managed to leave that out of my tear-down photos.
    Thanks!
    Jay

I think the bearings/bushings are supposed to be wider than the pulley so that if the center gets pinched the pulley will still turn freely. Sorry I just can't bring myself to open that area back up to make sure but I know someone here will remember. I "think" we were not supposed to tighten the bold so tight that it wouldn't turn. Mine rotate by finger turn.

When you paint the tubes DON'T PAINT THE PULLEYS!!! When I bought mine the ailerons were stiff because there was a lot of paint on the pulleys.

Hank is correct that the bushings are wider and No there are no washers needed if you use the original pulleys, the pulleys being manufactured today are only 0.250" wide as opposed to the original bushing size of 0.375" and a pulley width of 0.340", so if you have the new thinner pulleys you will need washers for spacers. This is the reason I cleaned up my old pulleys and made slightly over sized bushings for them.
I wish I was to the point in my project of getting ready to shoot the paint.

Thanks for the responses! Always good information! I will measure the bushings and go from there! Jay
